What a refreshing type of golf instruction. A common sense way to improve your swing without requiring you to have 5 or more swing thoughts to think about when you're learning golf.
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
Having more than 2 thoughts will be a total disaster. Try doing multiple thoughts if you are under pressure or as you say trying to learn the game, golf is tough enough without trying to make it complicated. You have to make this stuff simple.

Over the years I built a terrible habit of not breaking my wrist in effort to control ball accuracy. Not only did I not fully cure the accuracy, but I lost a lot of distance on my shots. I have been doing this drill for a solid week and I am hitting the ball like I was in my 20's again. Great lesson Paul! Thank you.

Glad you found me and see the power in what I am teaching. You would have lost distance for sure with those wrists locked up. See the wrists not as wrists. They are a hinge. A hinge hinges ... and rehinges. A hinge in life if loose. So you need super loose wrists. They you get serious power with no effort. Keep at it. I have tons of other tips too. @dmpt394 жыл бұрын
There are 4 wrist movements: flexion, extension, radial and ulnar flexion. The wrist flexes in the backswing but it is the type which can be confusing. Johnson at the top of the backswing has a very flexed toward the palm left wrist which gives a flat appearance whereas in your video the wrist appears cupped in the opposite direction.
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
As soon as you start talking like that I tune out as well as 99% of other people. You are making this way too complicated. Johnson's wrist is severely bowed. It's that simple. This is a serious flaw that was not corrected as a junior golfer. I have seen this many times over the years. My position is relative to a 2 knuckle grip position. There is no way on earth the average person is going to square the club from Johnson't position. This is fact.
@ilegor3654 жыл бұрын
Once again a great tip. Paul you appear to have strong hands and forearms. Doesn't this strengh determine how much lag and coil tension you can build up in the transition from backswing to downswing whilst keeping the wrists "relaxed"? The legendary swing of Sam Snead comes to mind.
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
Not at all. That would mean that no 12 year old would have leg when I see everyone of them with perfect lag and I never have to say one word about it. Train your wrists too be loose. If you do and start your body first, you will have lag. Take work though.

Yes, I do have it in my SMG book. This is vital and can only be done with the neutral grip. So if you are trying to get it back start with lesson 1 and just focus on each piece of the swing. Doing way more practice swings than balls you hit. Do it this way you will have it back in no time. It's all about the movement. Get the movement ... you get the ball.

Thanks for this, Paul. Question, is your wrist flat at full hinge or cupped? Also, how does one keep from over straining the thumb in the hinge?
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
My wrist is cupped relative to a 2 knuckle grip position. Yours should be too. In no way do you want a flat wrist at the top. There is an angle in your left wrist as you do a 2 knuckle grip. This should be the same angle at the top. Do you grip. Hinge the club up to your nose. Then rotate to the top with this angle. There you should see the slight cupping once you look back at it.
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
You may feel pain in the thumb too. You need to make sure your grip is neutral and in perfect position then just keep doing it. The pain should go away. If not there may be a physical issue. If this is the case then you need a workaround.
@grateful4things6734 жыл бұрын
Paul Wilson Golf Paul thanks for the tip, my hinged/cupped wrist at the top gives me an open club face at the top if I’m not mistaken. Or should the club face be square at the top with our cupped left wrist? Can you show or explain what brings the arms down and how the club face squares up? Is it a shoulder turn that drops the arms and not so much us actively trying to pull our arms down ? Thanks in advance
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
Square at the top with a slightly cupped wrist relative to a 2 knuckle grip position. Match the leading edge to your left forearm at the top. Your body rotation brings the club down. You need to start your legs and hips first. In no way are you pulling the down the club. You are squaring the club with loose wrists. If you are hitting shots with slice spin then of course you would be working on manually releasing the club for a while. Once you can consistently do that you would be focusing on body. So you have hinge/rehinge coil/uncoil.
@timmcnicholas66334 жыл бұрын

You have a very cupped left wrist at the top of the backswing, whereas most teachers suggest a flat wrist. The cupped wrist can provide lots of lag on the downswing but where does the ball go
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
Never heard that one before. My left wrist is slightly cupped which it should be relative to a 2 knuckle grip position. Do a neutral grip. When you do you will see an angle in your left wrist. Hinge the club up towards your nose. Once hinged, coil and set the top. That is the hinge and how much cupping you need in your wrists. A flat wrist would be manipulation of the wrist or a weak grip. This is fact. Where do my ball go? Dead straight or with a falling to the right.

Can you explain what lag is?
@paulwilsongolf4 ай бұрын
Lag means something is trailing behind something else. In golf this would be your club trailing behind your body. So from the top you use your legs and hips to hit the ball. This allows the arms to follow creating an angle in your wrists. As the legs keep firing and arms and club keeps coming down this angle is released (if your wrists are loose) creating clubhead speed and squaring the face. If you want lag just do this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaq9iXyvf7N7Y7s kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnnMoaKMqqqtf5Y kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZesfmV9jM9sedU Watch this as I compare my swing to an amateur's swing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4nYqZWIfZmVla8

Its not frustration but passion in knowing that this method works and fed up of seeing so many golfers struggle to get better, when its easy but you just have to know exactly whats going on in the golf swing. I had these same frustrations for years and nobody helped me until I figured it out differently. Just trying to help golfers out there not go through the anguish I did.

Well I have played golf for 50 years. You are a bit sensitive. The point is that Pictures or Videos explain much more than words.
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Yes, I am sensitive. I actually want people to understand and get it instead of blowing through my stuff not understanding it and not doing it. I actually explain "why" things happen in your swing unlike others that just say to do this or that in a 2 min tip that I know you will never do or will never work. I went through this myself when I was taking lessons and trying to learn it years ago. I asked countless pros "why" and they could never answer my questions. If you don't know "why" then why would you do it? As I said, if you want to skip through it no one is stopping you but as I am doing the tip I think of things and mention them in the tip. I also say things then say it again, and again so it sinks in. People are easily distracted these days and people only retain 17-25% of what they hear. If you are looking for lag and want to do it quick then do this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaq9iXyvf7N7Y7s I'll get you perfect lag in 2 mins. Video your swing and you will see it.
