In my last video I got quite a few questions about my Sur Ron, so in this video I'll be addressing two of the most popular questions including why I chose a 72v sur ron battery instead of getting a larger capacity 60v battery. Ill also answer why my sur ron was so loud in my last video going to hollywood on the stock battery.

I promise I don't mean any disrespect but I just can't understand this whole entire tiny electric bike concept. At 13 years old I was riding a 400 Kawasaki racing dirt bike. At 13 I never thought that the 400 was too powerful even though it was for my age. Today I hear grown men talking about how fast and how powerful these little electric bicycles are and it boggles my mind. What has happened to the American male?
@JuicedJoyrides
@JuicedJoyrides Жыл бұрын
no offense taken, you should give one a try... I also grew up on a gas dirt bike in my early teens, also have owned a 600cc sport bike that I'd ride 150 mph+, also Shelby gt500 and currently own a bmw m2 - all of which are much more powerful and objectively faster than this electric bike, the surron is a ton of fun for many reasons which are hard to understand until you experience it. instant torque, short wheelbase, super lightweight, nearly silent, you can get away with riding it just about anywhere.... this is my favorite toy I've ever owned considering my particular riding area

It seems like a simple fun factor over power. Looks appealing for short rips here and there for people who just want a little fun here and there in there otherwise complacated life as apposed to a lifestyle that goes along with a road or dirt bike.

I have a chi battery 60max paired with a bac4000 programmed to 12kw using green line engineering app. I live in NorCal and regularly ride forest hill ohv trails. Not a lot of extended climbs. I average about 65 to 68 watt/miles giving me close to 50 mile range of relatively hard riding. I also go to the high sierras with lots of extended double digit climbs and average about 100 to 103 watt/miles giving me close to 32 mile range of hard fast riding. IMHO the max is the best of both speed and distance world. I like the power of 12kw, since I’m about 200 lbs with all my gear. Also I have 21” front and 18” rear heavy off-road tires. If I took it easy I’m sure I could eek out another 20% range but that’s not fast!

Thanks for your detailed comment man! Sounds like some awesome riding, I want to ride NorCal and the sierra’s, sounds amazing. Also I like how you are calculating with watt/mile, makes a lot of sense to look at it that way, like mpg. Happy riding!

Automotive Gear oil is the best for non Oring chains, some chain manufacturers even recommend it in the fine print. Put some in a jar with a dedicated toothbrush and you’re set. My chain has never been quieter and there’s not chain wax all over everything.

You might look into a O-Ring chain, they have rubber O-rings on each link so its more quiet and lasts longer than a standard chain, I swapped out mine on a quad and it cut the noise in half
@JuicedJoyrides
@JuicedJoyrides Жыл бұрын
Haha I actually did the inverse swap and it cut the noise in half, likely due to simply having a clean chain. The non oring is faster for sure, but more maintenance…. Which I apparently suck at staying on top of 😆

The loose chain happens because of the torque created. Need to use lock tight and if you have for another bolt to stop the main bolt use it.

I'll most likely go with the more compact and lighter 72v battery on mine too. It offers more than enough range, amperage and performance... for my needs. The motors extremely basic air cooling is probably the weakest link in the chain so its a bad idea drawing more amperage by adding any more battery weight.

What do you think is a safe temperature to run the motor at?
@paulhope3401
@paulhope3401 Жыл бұрын
@@JuicedJoyrides Guess it depends on where you place the temp sensor. The Nucular controller Engineers/techs suggest setting their motor over temp cut off to 100 deg C IIRC. I believe an additional temp sensor is req to do it but could be wrong.

@@JuicedJoyrides Also be careful not to overtighten your chain, if you get a 'paddock' stand to pick up your rear wheel, you'll notice there are weak and tight points on your chain as you rotate the back wheel, you need about 1" total variation on the tight point (at the centre). Chains stretch but only when new

There is a lot of hype in the Sur Ron's but yet they don't have any range. Is 40 miles max range with little elevation gain a accectable range? I bought one of the low production R22 Everest editions with 140-180 miles range 190 nm of torque and 2500W peak motor with 1700 watt continuous power, of course it has dual 1750 watt/52 volts batteries. Plus comfortable seat with dropper seat post. full suspension fox shocks with gas in the back air in the front. Solid carbon frame and swing arm. quad hydralic brakes. I believe for 4 times the cost of a sur ron you get the best choice.

One day when they invent batteries that have excellent capacity and charge in minutes not hours life will change for the better. Even using low settings on my ebike it still takes forever (3-4hrs) to charge from 20% to full. I ride about 30-35 miles on 48v 10.4ah battery. It must take a while to charge those 60v and 72v batteries for the SurRon.
@JuicedJoyrides
@JuicedJoyrides Жыл бұрын
I review a lot of budget eBikes like you’re talking about on my other channel, you might want to look into upgrading to a 3amp charger, I’m guessing you have a 2 amp charger, it will reduce the charge time by 50%. Also you could look into the variable charger Luna sells and push 4 or 5 amps for an even faster charge, at some point it’ll be pushing safe charge time though with the small 10 ah battery

about batteries that charge in minutes close to impossible just because of the stupid amount of energy that would need to be suppiled in such short amount of time 1wh = 3.6KJ (60seconds in a minute, times 60 minutes in hour) so if you have a let's 2KWh batterie, that will end up being 7.2MJ which is stupid amount of power to deliver over a few minutes (at 10 minutes or 600 seconds that will be 7.2MJ/600= 12KW, add li ion charge inefficiency which is around 10%, you would need your power supply to deliver 13.3KW, at the output! adding 93% (not the the best but not bad efficiency rating either) you are talking about 14KW from the wall and if you use a 240v circuit, that will 58A constant current draw which is impractical, maybe if have 3 phases connected you can maybe try making it work but even then you will need to call your electric power provider to beef up your infrastructure

If the chain still loosens it might be that the torque is too much and the wheel or gears that hold the chain are not able to tighten enough to keep it in place. So this is a big problem try to fix asap. Wouldn't want you to get hurt.
