Well, that's the part where he's expressing affection for his wife. According to Neil, the lyrics were basically written before he inserted the name Caroline. I don't think anyone can argue with the man who actually wrote the song.

Well tracypierce8202, what about it? The whole line is:" Hands, touchin' hands. Reachin' out, touchin' me, touchin' you." Sounds like something mature couples normally do in a relationship. Nothing to see here.😴 But then, one could extract lines from hundreds of popular songs and make it fit a narrative. For example: The Who (1970):"See Me, Feel Me, Touch Me"🤣

Although in his defence he said he was researching how well known international banks are knowingly being used to facilitate payment in these Internet transactions!Whether that is an excuse or not is up to you to discern! But Tommy album by Townsend was semi autobiographical about child abuse of the central character!

Sounds twisted. A grown man is inspired by a little girl’s photograph? A love song supposedly written for his wife? So how does this vaguely sound ok? The lyrics sounds freaky as hell “touching you touching me”? Pedophile language. He couldn’t think of a name? Here’s a suggestion “Sweet Marcia Mine” somehow he thought it was ok to say the song was inspired by a little girl? He’s a singer songwriter, I’m not and have a suggestion so if it was truly about his wife so imagine what he could have come up with. Like Gary Glitter with “Do You Wanna Touch Me” straight up pedophile so yeah Neil Diamond doesn’t get a pass. People act with him the same as Michael Jackson & R Kelly both pedophiles but MJ got a pass. How ridiculous is any of this?

Granted, that has been a popular opinion among many. And the story certainly can sound twisted depending on how one interprets the lyrics. That's why the song has been discussed on talk shows and featured in articles. However, is it really twisted? Depends on who you ask. But there is one thing we do know. After all these years, no one has ever produced any "victims" to support their suspicions. All the other cases we've heard about have had plenty of alleged victims. Neil Diamond's life story just doesn't pass the smell test in that it doesn't "stink". That's why all of that speculation doesn't appear to concern the teams that adopt the song. Nor does it seem to matter to the people who joyfully sing it in group settings. Having said that, the alternative view you present is still appreciated.

​@@AllAboutStuffI totally agree. Like you mentioned, Neil recognized the innocence in the picture, which inspired him. It could possibly innocence of pure love, or the joy he felt during that time. These days, people tend to interpret things as it seem, not how it's intended to be. At the end of the day, artists will always be misunderstood by popular society.
