Broadcast television in the mid-1980s and early 1990s was dominated by domestic sitcoms - family-friendly shows about the trials and triumphs of parents raising kids and those kids pushing back against their parents' authority. This video is about one of the longest running ones that stood out from the bunch, Growing Pains.

It was called For the love of Nancy, I remember my health teacher in high school who used to tape lifetime movies for us to watch so he could go to the fieldhouse (he was a coach and also assistant principal) showed us this one. it was heartbreaking. I remember some behind the scenes commentary by Tracey where she talked about giving a lot of input into her behavior with body checking and her mental state then that they used in the film & how she felt it was important to do the film if it meant others could possibly be helped and that is was somewhat healing to confront her struggles head on by doing this film. It had to be very triggering. @@melissacooper8724

I first watched the show when it was in syndication. I remembered when Tracey missed a few episodes due to the issues she was dealing with. I also remembered Kristy MacNicol left the show "Empty Nest" for mental health issues. Thank u for bringing attention to Steve Marshall and his "legal battles", because I had no idea. Kirk Cameron was definitely a cutie back in the day. I think Kirk had the blonde girl fired, allegedly, because he was feeling her but it wasn't mutual. Great post as always! Sad to hear about the guy that played "Boner". Which brings to attention, how did the network get away with a character name as "boner"?

Before the word “boner” became slang for an erection, it was a term used for a mistake. As in: “I mistook the Drano for Sunny D. What a boner!”

Yeah this show was on all the time in my house, my mom watching it more than I did. It was a background piece, really lol. Meaning, we always had a TV on somewhere in the house, so guaranteed you were going to hear this show on in the background at one point or another during the day/night. Those were certainly different times...

The show was great but when Kirk dove headfirst in religion he became a nightmare cause instead of just making it one aspect of his life he let it become the ruling factor to where eventually he stoped do regular acting and only did faith based movies and his sister Candace became the same way but was as outspoken about what was wrong with society placing a lot of the blame on the lgbtq community doing the whole hide behind religion to demonize a community type thing and u can feel a change in mike after this happened cause it’s like mike is a completely different character after he went deeper into religion to remember watching the show when it was on and was cool after they started showing the cast’s younger pictures that the last one in the house was who the episode was to be focused on that week I just didn’t that for the episode where Chrissy was born they broke the 4th wall by connecting the actual episode to the opening having Maggie going into labor in the opening cause to me it’s not the characters standing there in front of the house it’s the cast and they could have had her slow to go in due to being pregnant singling to us the viewers this will be a Maggie episode and have her go into labor a few minutes into the actual episode

I loved this show as I grew up. I absoluteky hated it when the series ended. I always chalked it up to ratings, the execs, and most likely the younger ones wanting to do other things in their lives....or at least thats how I rationalized it all. Never saw the movies. Early 2000s were a mess for me. Dark times :/ I wish they'd show TGIF shows on regular tv. And by regular I mean antenna. And yes, people still use antennas....albeit with digital boxes. I miss how they'd show reruns during the 80s. Big Valley, Gumby, etc. You know, the classics of 60s and 70s shows...alas, they stopped doing that in the mid 90s. All went to cable / satellite. Mrrrh.

So Kirk posed for a magazine too? You have proof? That’s what a hypocrisy is. Calling out someone else while you’re committing the same wrong. You’re out of line with only speculation on all accounts, I’m afraid.

@@kellyanne7225 He never had to have posed for a magazine to prove his hypocrisy. He had a young lady fired from Growing Pains for simply posing nude ( a decision he very likely still stands behind) and yet he supports a former president who recently lost a sexual assault civil case and publicly bragged about grabbing women by their privates. Cameron also did an interview for Newsmax claiming the left wants to cancel his library promotions when he had a an actress cancelled for reasons I just described.

@@waverlyking6045 That’s not hypocrisy. Did you not just read the definition? There is nothing wrong with calling out wrong behavior. It’s when you’re doing the exact same behavior and pointing fingers to get someone else in trouble for it. Don’t even get me started on former Presidents and their sexual issues. The left has a lot to answer for on this while their guys were President. 🙄 Not to mention the walking freak show in office now. You’re in no place to judge! Your example is also out of context. Nice try, though.

That’s not true at all other cast members have done interviews explaining that when they did the reunion show, Kirk actually pulled the cast together in a meeting and apologize about his actions towards the end of the show when he first found his religion and how he took things overboard and he didn’t quite know how to act around none christians. I think him feeling the need to start off by apologizing means he knew he was wrong. Absolutely nothing is wrong with being a Christian. I’m a Christian, but what is not OK is forcing your religion down someone else’s throat a reason people come to America is to be able to practice whatever religion they want to practice freely and in the way they want to the way that I love God may not be the way that you love God and that’s Ok.

Juicy Pop, I’m sorry to say this will be long. Kirk became a Born Again Christian and in an article I read, his sister Candace said religion was rarely discussed, if at all, in their house as kids. The late Mr. Alan Thicke, told him that [I’m paraphrasing all of this and will use ** to denote it’s a paraphrase.] *since his (Kirk’s) convictions are so strong he can channel his creativity to a Christian network. The producers were fed up with it. The producer(s) is (are) the show runner(s). On occasion, an actor or actress is a show runner.*
