Maven what's up? What happened to those early style videos? Those are way more entertaining than the story telling videos. I like when you do things like answer Google search questions, or teach us how you bladed without being seen ya know things like that. These videos aren't bad don't get me wrong but I love the other style of videos much more

Oh I love seeing and hearing Devon! I worked with him back in 2010-2013 when he was at TNA and I was working backstage for them as a prop runner. He never once forgot who I was even when I hadn’t seen him in like 6 months. He is one of the kindest people I have ever met in my life. Loved just listening to him talk and tell stories about his time in business. He was so sweet and kind. Thank you again for teaching me so much Devon. I learned so much from talking with you.

@LordZaayl
@LordZaayl 7 ай бұрын
That fact alone was probably what got New Jack acquitted. There is a level of negligence on the fathers part for allowing his son to wrestle in the first place. But at the same time this was 1996 and most people knew wrestling was "fake" (scripted) but how real the work is was not well known, it was a common assumption that wrestling was completely safe and wrestlers never got hurt in the ring and its not like you could just google it and find out online super easily like you can today, the internet was in its infancy and the business was still being protected. Though I don't know if he was aware his son had to lie about his age and credentials to get in the ring, if he did then there was really no excuse at all and he would be at the very least equally to blame.

It was probably that moment where the big companies like WCW and WWE decided that he’d be too much of a liability to sign, and it was probably the Vic Grimes incident where wrestlers that worked for the big companies decided that they wouldn’t want to work with him either, so he just sealed his own fate to be doing garbage matches for indies, though he did have a little run at TNA, but he was heavily neutered there

Great video. I love how Maven asks good questions and D-Von's comments about the match are very on point without going into personal opinions about people's behavior in the match. On that note, I honestly can't believe New Jack got away with this. Doesn't matter that Mass Transit was 17, it was the fact that he cut him in a way meant to seriously injure him. If he had just bladed him to make him look bloody and done the rest of his actions, I wouldn't have given it much thought. The fact that he left the building as soon as the match was over tells you all you need to know.

As someone in the southeastern U.S wrestling scene it amazed me just how often New Jack got booked when he was clearly mentally unstable. I only knew him post skull fracture, but many people claimed he came out of that injury as a completely different person. New Jack was legitimately the scariest wrestler I've ever met out of character. He legitimately made me question at times if he forgot that what he does was supposed to be a work. New Jack had some very interesting accounts of this in some interviews during his final years where he wasn't trying to be over the top. When it got to court, he got Paul Heyman and ECW off the hook almost immediately. When Erich Kulas' lawyer was trying to establish how long New Jack had worked for ECW, Jack said that he didn't work for them. Even after the lawyer pulled out various magazines with pictures of New Jack in ECW, Jack responded with "I'm sub-contracted. I don't work for ECW". New Jack was facing up to 11 years for assault and battery with a deadly weapon when the case went to trial in late 1998 and concluded in early 1999, and he claimed that the District Attorney in Massachusetts had been offering him a plea deal right up until the day of the verdict. If New Jack would plead guilty the offer was a five year prison sentence, and he would serve one before being eligible for parole. The civil lawsuit went pretty much the same way as the criminal trial, with New Jack getting acquitted on all counts. As wrestlers had testified that Kulas had asked New Jack to help him "get colour", and Kulas' father had been complicit in lying to get his son booked by ECW, despite knowing that he was underage and had no training.

I’m in an indie promotion in England. We have trainees ranging from 12 years old up to 28 years old. There’s a couple new wrestlers on the shows who are 15, but our policy is that nobody under 16 years old can be hit with weapons and they are excluded from any type of death match. At 17 they can be put in death matches, BUT they can’t watch or perform on the 18+ shows that we might put on, which contain far more bloody death matches.
@NonSenseMcGee
@NonSenseMcGee 7 ай бұрын
I mean, why? Death matches being used so often just dilutes an already diluted match type and only serves to potentially injure young wrestlers - what purpose could any feud involving a 17 year old serve by going that far? What story does it tell? Does it really increase viewership or tickets sold to have death matches all the time?
@Halfdanr_H
@Halfdanr_H 7 ай бұрын
@@NonSenseMcGee We don’t have death matches “all the time”, but when we do there’s rules regarding age. That was such an interesting insider perspective on the match but kind of an outsider perspective too, as D-Von was part of the match but didn't do anything in the incident and couldn't really help the kid. It was interesting hearing what he knew was supposed to happen and where it went sideways. And also the aftermath. Great interview.

The world is for sure better off with not having New Jack in it. Maybe he took too many blows to the head Benoit-style I dunno, but something was clearly off with him.

You’re very right here. When New Jack came back from that “death fall” with Vic Grimes he was really, really effed up. By his own account, he had brain fluid leaking from his ears and eyes, was permanently blinded in one eye, became an insomniac AND had issues with memory and self control. The substances definitely didn’t help. But if memory serves, every one of Jack’s more infamous incidents occurred after that head injury. That doesn’t excuse anything but maybe explains some things? Maybe?

I love wrestling. But there is no defending New Jack as ''It's just New Jack here''. That is evil shit to take advantage of a late replacement wrestler like that. That's different than just roughing the guy up, it's attempted murder here. The going to plan shit went out the window when D-von said himself that he didn't know anything but the finish when working New jack 14:00 Love the channel, but let's not minimize how evil and plainly sociopath the Mass Transit ''Incident'' was. New Jack is a piece of trash if you ask me.

The fact a grown man almost killed a 17 in fake wrestling can’t be understated

The fact that a grown man LIED and allowed his 17 year old son to be almost killed can't be understated. He lied about his age. If an underage kid uses a fake id to get into a bar and gets beat up in a bar fight....you blame the guys that beat the kid up?
@oneup12
@oneup12 4 ай бұрын
@mastervoz no I blame the bar for having such poor standards that they are letting underage people in with fake IDs. 100% of the time, the bar is liable. As should be the league. Checking an ID isn't very hard.
