Holy hell...that was hardcore...like damn. Imagine it from the German's perspective. They knew what the gas was capable of and were confident that they were gonna win, only to see these dying soldiers come at them like bats from hell. I'd be scared too. Also, imagine a timeline if Vladimir had told his superiors about his worries.

It reminds me more of the Great Siege of Malta of 1565, where the Ottoman Empire tried to invade the small island, which was held by the Knights Hospitaller. The siege itself lasted 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days.

The Germans managed to move their lines 1 km, then the French pushed them back by that 1 km.
