@@GhostFire455 Well, think about it like this. The Empire wasn't heavy handed to most citizens. They kept order. Gun and drug runners through the systems were harshly punished. Mercenaries and other threats were kept in check. The markets and trade routes were safe and free from threats. The Empire was destroyed by the Rebels and all of that would very quickly change. It would become chaos. Bandits would prey on travelers. The Rebel Alliance has no way to protect the systems and planets like the Empire did. They were an overall moral good.

To be fair to David Prowse, his body acting was pretty good. The way Darth Vader moved was part of his appeal, and the energy he put into his lines so that his body movements were in sync with the lines that James Earl Jones would later deliver - that was all David.

He had to work in a costume that covered him from head to toe and he still managed to convey Vader's emotions perfectly, especially in the scene in Return Of The Jedi where Luke surrenders to him on the moon of Endor. When Luke says "then my father is truly dead", you could tell that that cut Vader to the bone. Well, what was left of it, anyway.

In this movie, yes. But he had a bit of a skirmish with Lucas and co. in V and VI because he felt “why do I need to remember Vader’s lines if my voice is gonna be dubbed over?” which caused a lot of confusion for his costars since he’d never recite his lines, therefore every actor had to work harder to remember his lines because a huge part of reciting book is knowing your cues so you could know what to say and when.

Prowse is so underappreciated and got so shafted by Lucas. I understand that they needed a more menacing voice since Prowse just sounded like...well...a guy. But he was never TOLD his voice was going to be removed and was not just surprised but justifiably angry at the premiere. I would be too if I played one of the most iconic villain's in pop culture and nobody even knew and wound up getting relatively little in the way of pay compared to everyone else including his "voice". I'm sure he would have agreed to it (maybe with the stipulation his name got a good place on the poster? I don't know) and they did come to an agreement after the fact but the fact that Lucas hid that from him in the first film is just so shady and icky.

They told him he was going to be dubbed, but just not that it wouldn't be by him. The mask made his lines useless and he and everyone else on set knew that. He however was never called over to redo the lines in a studio in the States, and JEJ was asked instead. His lines on set were for the performance of him and the other actors, not for the film. If it were JEJ in the suit the voice would be equally comical, coming from the helmet. In the studio they could have had plenty of flexibility with his vocal performance, including the timbre and accent if his skills were up to it, but we never get to find that out.

I remember not knowing it was James Earl Jones as a child. i think the fact that George was pissed at David Prowse for lying about knowing how to sword fight also played into it. reportedly george was pretty cold towards David and everyone knew it, liked david and felt bad for him. David Prowse had the physically imposing build and stature for Vader, but not the voice. Vader needed to have a voice to match his intimidating presence. James Earl Jones was perfect. A lot of people consider James Earl Jones to be what made Vader's character so great, but it was the combination of Prowse's physical presence and Jones' deep, booming voice that made the character great. Jones could do the voice yet lacked the build while Prowse had the build but lacked the voice. They were both intricate parts.

If I recall correctly, Prowse was never told that his voice would be replaced. After the movies' huge success, he never got to keep any memorabilia and was barely credited. He didn't even get the luxury of doing all the iconic lightsaber fights or even appearing as the face of Anakin from under the mask (a fact which was also kept secret from him). All the credit went to Jones, and while it was well deserved, almost nobody remembers Prowse, the 6'6 bodybuilder, just because he had a goofy accent and had a problem holding a movie prop. If it wasn't for his physique, Darth Vader wouldn't have been nearly as cool and threatening as we all remember!
