The reality of being an elites sportsman often seems like the dream, but we only see the good stuff - Calum shares what it's really like and talks to us about his rollercoaster career from the beginning to what he's doing now.
In this special episode of The YoGeez podcast, we talk to top geez Calum Clark. Calum is now Wellbeing & Personal Development Manager at Saracens Rugby Club. Calum previously played rugby for Yorkshire, Northampton, Saracens & England. He talks very openly about the realities of professional rugby, the ups, the downs and the boredom. Spoiler alert - it's not what the rest of us think!
Calum then went onto study psychology and with all of his experience too, works with Saracens to ensure that the players are mentally and emotionally fit. Why? Because it's important for not just their wellbeing, but their performance too.
Just like with his rugby, Calum doesn't hold back, and there's a lot all of us can learn from this conversation. Some of what we discuss:
- How rugby become his outlet for suppressed emotions
- The pressures of the modern game
- What we don't see
- His ban
- How he got into psychology
- His approach with young players today
- What he's enjoyed since retiring from playing
Also, he's a top top geez. Enjoy.
