As a dev/ engineer, this guy's spot on. Too things I love is the never ending learning & how it's not easy, naturally that's a source of pride. You also have to be humble af & ask questions (that might make u 'look dumb')

Man this is SO true! About 15 mins before daily standups I'm trying to figure out how to frame why I'm still working on the same thing from Monday in as positive of light as possible on Thursday 🤣😅

I agree with all this. Just one note. Often times the pressure can come from other people and factors and not technical problems themselves. This can be very demanding

Great video Brian, I’ve been an Engineer for almost 12yrs. What got me into this field was a childhood dream and enthusiasm to create. Stand up calls / meetings are a waste of time if you ask me.

Your videos are really helping so huge thanks! 🙏 Im 47 and leaving my well established teaching career (accounting) to move into tech & I dont want to watch a video about what to wear to the office or what a software engineer eats for lunch 🤦‍♀️😂 I want real life with stressful careers, bills to pay, families to care for etc so I'm finding your content much more relevant for my life so thank you & I'm still interested!

So true, all those "day in the of" videos are not accurate. Not every Dev job is FAANG job and has enormous campuses. I tolerate the stress because I love problem solving and creating new stuff.

I'm learning rn and my mentor that teaching me basically said, you can get into this field for the money and you'll enjoy it but with that mindset, you won't advance further than an L4 maybe L5 if you're naturally talented. if you wanna actually do this because you enjoy it and you find a sub-industry you enjoy money won't even be a thought cus 1 you'll have more than enough. this is true as ive experienced so far cus i live in a country where software developers make enough money out of High school to buy a Mercedes S-class and live in a well-off area. i know a guy in the company whos looking to hire me that makes enough money in a month to buy a whole ass house in a really nice suburb every month just from his salary and he basically invests half of it each month so i dont even wanna know how much he gets in total a month

I started it for the money. I lasted about three months learning it before I realised I was stumped everytime I went to build a project. "Ah, yes... there's nothing I actually want to build" 🤦‍♀️ It's impossible to keep it up if you're only doing it for the money imo.

Everything you said is the truth. This job is much harder than my previous IT job. I switched careers 5 months ago as a self taught developer. But I wanted this. I wanted this challenge. I didn’t want to be stuck on the Help Desk or doing repetitive tasks with a lack of substance or purpose like I’ve had in previous jobs.

Your mind will always be occupied with solutions, problems and you can't be mentally present in lots of occasions 😂😢. It takes lot of efforts to draw that line.

Brian, I'm LOVING PYTHON! I currently work at the airport here in Georgia and have the opportunity to read everyday. My PYTHON book is with me 24-7. I've found the joy in learning and what I'll be doing in about 6-months. Coding is creating! When you've studied all that you can, your brain is begging to be used and challenged. Next on my schedule is SQL. My 90-year old father brought that database program to my attention about 8-years ago but I never took the time to venture into anything database related. Let me tell you, as old as I am my attitude of "You can do it" has heightened to a level I cannot explain! Programming with PYTHON is what I want to do!! I'm in it for the glory FIRST as I know the money will be there as well. When people sing praises to your name after the war, that right there is worth MORE than all of the riches of the world. Keep pushing, Brian. I expect to hear of your newly established software company soon. Great fortune to you and your family! ✊🏿⚔🛡🖤💯

I highly doubt it. If you’re in a good situation you shouldn’t be too stressed. They should know that you’re learning and support you more. It gets harder as you move up in rank because you end up with more responsibility and it’s assumed you don’t need much help at all.
