I work in the medical field and have been contemplating the switch towards pursuing a career in tech. I’ve watched your videos before and learned some code while at home, but recently, I’ve still been on the fence towards pursuing a degree in nurse anesthesia vs tech since I’ve been working in the medical field for 5 years now and I felt that it would be a shame to up all that I’ve worked for. However, I’m starting to realize that my personality may not be well suited to become a nurse anesthetist. It has been a struggle letting go of a dream that I’ve held onto ever since I was in high school/college. I took science classes while working, took certs, and the GRE for this, but taking a couple of steps back to fully analyze myself and my situation was seriously needed. To spend 3 years of my life in school full time without earning income & getting into huge debt again made me re-think those aspirations even more. Thank you for being open about your experience in switching career fields and being able to quickly pivot and thrive in the tech field. It has helped me understand that it’s ok to let go of old dreams and pursue new ones.

I got a little into coding, nothing major. I was doing the Swift Playgrounds app on the iPad 2-3 years ago. I got really hooked on it and I ended up getting stuck and was watching this KZbinr explain the reasoning and being able to understand it and it got my creative mind thinking and I was able to come up with my own solutions. Then he stopped and I got stuck and I just stopped then my iPad screen broke and then I bought the 2018 iPad Pro and I haven't fully been able to get back into it. I was really enjoying it. I loved it. I want to get back into it. But haven't been able to find myself to fully be able to. It's depressing me. I want to learn software! This is encouraging me.

Yes! Thank you for this - Great watch! Could you please also do a video on certificates? There's obviously a lot of free resources out there, but some of them offer a paid feature where you're given a certificate, and I'm sure self-taught programmers in-training (like myself) are curious as to how useful these really are. I've heard varying opinions on this from different successful programmers. On the one hand, certificates can credit your knowledge, skills and abilities, but on the other hand, do employers even really notice all these little course certificates and might it even look "bad" that you "took the 'easy' route" instead of going to college/uni?? Thanks for your time and all your work on this channel! We appreciate you!

I’ve been wondering the same too I’m 19 and in college right now for theater but I’ve gotten into coding over the summer and I’m debating whether or not I should do it as a degree some KZbinrs say you don’t need it and some say it doesn’t hurt to have it but I don’t wanna spend money on more classes when I could learn all that I need to learn for free I just wanna know if it will be easier or harder for me to get a job with or without a degree
@evalinacesarcassule50974 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, i think is good to have,at least 1 certificate, just for insurance. And add to your resume the free courses as well, in my vision, i my show to the employer that you are a flexible person able to learn by yourself and able to reach other people and respurces when you feel stock with something. Self learning as limitations sometimes and some of the employers will consider this. Another thing that some youtubers say is to make personal projects and use as portfolio. So, in my opinion, mix these 3 things to increase your chances

Such a great video. I wise I knew this before I went to uni. I would have paid more attention in my programming lessons. I remember graduating from Material Engineering and thinking, I can only work in a lab or in an Engineering firm. I was finding it difficult to figure out how I could apply the skills I learnt to anything else. When I learnt to analyse data with python/ sql, it meant that I could sit in my room and analysis how a certain stress would cause a material to fail. I get to use the expensive skills I learnt at uni with that analytical skills from a free udemy course. The opportunities I can take advantage of has expanded exponentially. I also decided to learn swift and I am now building an app for idea I had. It’s amazing being able to create with a laptop and not needing to being in lab. Labs are great and building things that you can touch is amazing but you don’t have to restrict yourself to just that.

I know nothing about coding at all! I love finding solutions to problems! Do I need a separate computer to start. Can you do a video on what electronics and software you need to get started.
@ensmith2104 жыл бұрын
You don't need a separate computer but I do suggest looking into installing a Virtual Machine onto your desktop. Look up VM Virtual Box. I installed Linux distribution Ubuntu where I was able to access my browser of choice and apps /programs. You can break things without messing up your actual computer since VM is a virtual machine.
@Timekeeper202394 жыл бұрын
You do not need a new computer to start. You don't need a virtual box, or VM of any kind. You can do this of course, and I personally enjoy working on a "Linux" distribution, rather than windows, but it's not needed. It's an optional choice. I would recommend googling simple tutorials for HTML/CSS/Javascript code, then once you've grasped that, pick a javascript framework to practice with, like React or Angular, then find a simple tutorial to create a basic page with your chosen framework. LinkedIn, has some tutorials, and quizzes + certificates upon completions too.

If you can code you can build simple programs to achieve business needs at a fraction of the cost.

Your videos have really inspired me to look into a career as a software engineer! I anticipate each new video you release :) What do you suggest as a starting point, i'm thinking of signing up for Code Academy for their classes and I work full time currently, is this a good point to begin learning? how many hours are required daily to learn the sufficient material in your opinion?
