Good points brother. Although I disagree with your take on Ramadan. I grew up in Egypt as a child then moved to Canada. I'm from East Africa so I'm not biased towards Egypt. Ramadan atmosphere in Egypt is everywhere - you feel that everyone is like you fasting and then doing prayers etc. In North America - ppl are working all day and fasting alone with coworkers who regard the observance with puzzlement. In Egypt ppl do get together with their families and it is boisterous and communal. And they generally don't do this at masjids given government controls and that women after cooking for a whole family don't want to cart food to the neighbourhood mosque. It would've been good had you connected with a local family - they would've invited you in for iftar. There is a Ramadan spirit that is entirely missing in North America apart from that communities create for the short period after maghreb. Finally- given the economic troubles of Egypt for the last decade ppl have little for themselves let alone to donate or give to others for iftar. The relative affluence of North America makes it easy for working wives to just pick up food for the communal iftar and then just eat with fellow Muslims.

Yes I agree I have lived in Egypt for 2 Ramadan’s thus far and Ramadan by far is much better here than any place I have experienced Ramadan in America My family and I have enjoyed Ramadan and Eid much greater than we have in America The communal aspect is like nothing else I have experienced

Assalam 'alaikoum, I think that you enjoyed it because you had family or friends, but I am from France and I remember being alone with everything closed the day of eid that I went to celebrate in Morroco. I think that in all muslim countries people celebrate with their families so it is complicated if you don't have family in the country.

Hi Egyptian here, It's actually about being an expat in another country. You can experience Ramadan and Eid in Egypt if you are Egyptian or have a strong circle. In the US Muslims gather as they are a minority but in Egypt Families gather in Eid and Ramadan. Families in Egypt are huge. It's not the 2 or 3 members family. It's your whole relatives. Uncles, aunts everyone usually gather at a family house. You get to spend time with relatives you didn't see in months. And some families travel within Egypt. So if you live in Cairo, you most probably not born in Cairo or your roots are in a different state so you go to your home village or city. Sometimes people travel to Sahel (The north coast), or El gouna. But if you want Muslim vibe (I don't think Sahel is a good option) It's tough I guess if you are an expat. If you make friends in Egypt, they would prefer to spend Eid and Ramadan with their large family. So I understand why you don't feel the US Islamic vibes in Egypt. Be safe man. with time your circle will grow and you will get the vibes inshallah.

I feel you on the difference of Ramadan in Egypt vs the USA. I felt the same way. However if you have family and good neighbors, Eid can be lit in Egypt. The experience we get in USA at the masjid they experience in Egypt among the family and neighbors. Get tight with people you can vibe with and it will be better.

I agree with you brother. In all of your points. I found Ramadan and Eid is a family based holiday and so it’s not like it is in Canada where there are festivals and gatherings for the community, the single people without families and the new converts who don’t have family members who practice with them. I do feel it is changing with time though. I found it is slowly getting better in Easy Africa with regards to community celebrations for Ramadan and Eid.

I agree with all you said but you failed to mention the political and financial crisis that is increasing rapidly and consistently in eygpt, i think that too is a very important thing to know before someone takes that decision. i think thats part of the reason so many people in egypt cant fathom why one would leave america to come here. I pray you find a wholesome community to surround yourself with in ramadan and eid. i never really quite noticed but yeah, people here in egypt usually have large families and tend to celebrate ramadan and eid with their families and extended family, neighbors ,friends,ect..,that makes me quit sad how i never noticed we stopped celebrating ramadan and eid together in the masajids with our fellow brothers and sisters in islam.

Bro I lived in egypt for like 5yrs... a brother got raided in his apartment for making a video like this. Anything about the country's image they are VERY protective about. Horrible experience of getting arrested and deported. The intelligence there is way more sophisticated than you'd think, they'll find you quickly if theyre looking for you. Unfortunately negative sentences get more attention then the rest of your statements

For my muslim brethren in West, there are no islamic countries in the world right now except my own, Afghanistan. All others are just muslim-majority countries. If you guys wanna make hijrah, the best place is your native homeland but if you findin it very difficult then you're most welcome in Afghanistan and you'll be embraced like no other.

But Islam is about family that’s why ppl r home visiting relatives. So u need to create ur family of friends, neighbors etc. But if u live in a simple neighborhood ppl r out eating together. If we don’t make gatherings here in the west there be nothing for our kids to experience as Islamic feast. But back home I can hardly keep up with my extended family neighbors colleagues etc. But u can build relationships easily ppl will adopt u & hold ur hand. Try it out for at least a year, it will change ur life, it’s a thousand times better than living in non-Muslim countries.
