The very first time I wanted to film overhead without a tripod, the books were the VERY first thing that came to mind. I used the exact stacking method u used and encountered the exact same problems you mentioned in the vid (yes the balance is tricky and they can get in the cameras way) Those people who use minimalist, money saving, creative, fun ways to get around obstacles like these are awesome. keep the style going!

You could get a giant cardboard box and cut a hole to see what you are doing on the top and a side hole to put your hands through, then you can safely position the camera without it falling

For whoever reads this you can also take a shoe box and cut a small square at the bottom of it an pot the phone in the shoe box and the camera part is by the hole and then you tape the box to the wall and vwala, I used that method for my first few videos and it worked perfectly

I’ve already filmed a few vids using books, the main issue I face is the balance. The books have to stand on each other with the most ideal angle/position or the whole things just gonna fall apart. It’s all about balance. A troubleshooting way I deal with this is using my desks shelf. I lie one wide thin book down, the other books standing on the half lying on the shelf, and put my phone on the other exposed half. Or the book is heavy enough on its own to support the phones weight

Just for information.... the 1st step was actually very usefull. What i do is i take 2 thick book, and 2 book stander. Just put the together. Then i take 2 books that have same length and thickness on top. I put my phone on the edge then balance it with my journal. The i close the book stander and the part of the book that is shown on the camera with a medium sized box. Positioning it to make sure the part is closed. And voila it's finish !

I made an structure with a big box... just cut the front and back, left the sides and thin roof with a window right in the middle then attached a piece of wood for it to not fall down with the weight of the phone. Also put an elastic band so the phone doesn't slip off. It doesn't look fancy but it works just fine lol

Some other tips that might help🙂: 1) you can find some really cheap and good tripods at 5 and below or at the dollar store or at Walmart 2) if you have a pop socket it is really helpful to prop up your phone so it's focused on what you want
