Shaykhna, if both the extreme camps; the radical Jihadist and the far-right wing parties in America smear you, then you must be doing something right mashaAllah! :D ...The Middle path between the two extremes is always the path of the Muslim. May Allah protect you from these people and their death threats, Ameen. Respects to Jimmy Carter & Desmond Tutu for speaking out against apartheid Israel. Very educational and thought-provoking interview - Jazak Allah Khayr!

The seerah series is amazing, cannot recommend it enough to all Muslims and non Muslims. As for the rebellious frustrated youth joining this over zealous band of killers, look at your surroundings for experienced Muslims who have seen more of life than you. As mentioned in the podcast you won't find them. And when you don't find wise Muslims to look up to it's time to get out of that place and pray for forgiveness. May Allah guide us all and keep us on that straight path.

I'm a non religious Westerner but I actually relate lot more to the Muslim view of the nation states. They don't exist forever and their lines are basically fictitious. I actually read about it in a book about racism. And I often wonder why so many other Westerners don't view ultra-nationalism as equal threat to religious radicalism. Maybe its because I'm sexual minority and realize I would be killed or at least oppressed by both extremes. And I want to say that even though I'm not religious myself I really respect other people's faith and that mindless violence is not truly Islamic any more its Christian. And long ago before I lost my faith I considered converting to either Judaism or Islam. And even if I had converted to either of these faiths (just like now as agnostic) I would be someone who would have totally been against oppression of Palestinians and anti-Semitism at the same time. People who are in any way mistreated should be defended. To me its the basic idea of justice and not religious. But I really respect how many Muslims around the world went to help Afghanistan fight against USSR, they managed to drive communists away without murdering innocent civilians in Moscow or Vladivostok. And yes Desmond Tutu is awesome!

Most of the one-off incidents, including the Sousse shootings, appear to be carried out by people with mental health issues but that is not the case in Syria. The people who go there as mercenaries and are killing their own people, Muslims or other adherents to the book, e.g. the Christians. I say mercenaries as they are hired by the west and if this is cast in doubt, who are they buying arms from? and why are they selling oil to the west? Lastly why , if they are so against states, are they returning to Britain, or other countries, to their parents? I hope you are not using your argument about nation states to justify the slaughter os Syrians Communists and anarchists have the paradigm of statelessness and what are they doing in Syria? a lot of them are supporting the Kurdish to murder Arabs. I don't disagree with your analysis about the nation state but anything that justifies Syria is dangerous. It has never been so safe as when it acquired borders. You mention Quantanamo but I campaigned for the release of people including Muezzim Begg in 2003 and by 2005 Mr Begg was taking money from Britain to Syria, on behalf of the state and himself to fund the Brothers to take down the govt. I think we are all a bit misguided here.

I think you are doing your best but no matter what you say you are clearly torn. There is no civil war in Syria its just the Brotherhood wanting to impose its minority will on Christians and other Muslims and they are using the west and its mercenaries to do this. (I say minority view because in 2005 there was a huge rift among the Brothers in Syria, I suspect that is why they allied with the mercenaries til they got too scared of them). This is my own personal knowledge. Syria was lovely with a fair govt that prevented head chopping, lashings and other antiquated behaviour. If there are no borders in Islam there are in the Eastern Christian church and it was there first. They have to live together, full stop. The Christians have exactly the same beliefs as you, or at least the same God and piety. Its completely irrelevant about Jesus's status in relation to God, he existed. Of course Mr Choudry suppports the Islamist position in Syria and Iraq but at least he's honest about it so you know where you stand with him. Arabs can be really racist particularly against black Muslims, I've heard them being racist. Back to Quantanamo, the prisoners there had every right to fight for the Taliban or the group they supported if they were from Pakistan/Afghanistan, there's a huge overlap. If though like Mr Begg they return to Britain just to help it create a war then I have no sympathy. And I cannot begin to understand what the Deghayes from Libya were doing in Afghanistan or Syria. Cheek especially when they run back to Britain afterwards and are welcomed by the goverment.

ahmed khan You're killing your religion bro. Every innocent killed (yazidi, shi'i, christian, fellow sunni, etc), cases muslims to doubt their faith. I've seen it with my own eyes. May Allah allow you to grow to old age so you can attain the wisdom to see the havoc you're causing now. It's going to take decades for us to recover.

I disagree with you on the root cause of terrorism. Terrorism has more to do with an ideology that emerged within Sunnism in the 18th century.
