Great video! Been on the fence about this for a while. I workout daily at 5am and I push myself very hard lifting & running. I guess I’ve been afraid of what I may find out with the whoop. I overthink EVERYTHING so information overload has been a legit concern. I guess I won’t lose anything given it a try.

Can't wait to get mine. Ordered 18 months. I know it's as "simple" as I need to sleep more, go to bed earlier etc... I'm time poor currently, business to run, 4 staff, 11 month old daughter, exercise is my only "me time" so I bought this to maximise it and avoid going too hard and not recovering. I've done some HRV tests with my chest strap and various apps but I'm somewhat of a minimalist and like my data in one place, one app. No faff. Wish me luck, 18 months zero to hero haha

I am 43 5 10, 82 kilos I have had injuries so lack of exercise, but somewhat healthy, I fast , keto diet , cold water dips showers for the 7 years, I do have low BPM, my fitbit watch HRV is between 12 -16 last few weeks, and had plenty of low readings like this in the past, it has been as low as 9, my best weeks last week were when I was travelling on holiday and reasonably mobile with HRV of 19 -34 and average weeks of 16 -25, Should I be worried? or is the HRV with Fitbit way off?

Nice video, I don’t like the pitch of getting rid of your watch to get this. For me it makes much more sense to have an Apple Watch and a whoop because I need my watch for long runs to track distance pace and heart rate with a quick glance. I know a bunch of others who use whoop and Apple Watch at the same time daily

Wes, I have 2 different Whoop strap just this year-neither worked. Neither could accurately track sleep and both burned my wrist. Truly. I had scales, like a bad sunburn, in the area where I’d worn my Whoop strap. I sent their customer service pics of what had happened. They basically blamed me and said i must have an odd “skin type”. If only it would work as they say it does.
@WesJH
@WesJH 4 жыл бұрын
Wow! I have to say that’s quite the unusual experience. If you breakdown the components of a WHOOP strap, they’re identical to those of all other wrist worn trackers. I can’t imagine how that’d happen to you. Sorry about your experience!

@WesJH 4 жыл бұрын
@@jeffjarrell5192 But the Apple Watch is fine? Crazy! I did a deep dive before into the hardware in each, and there's literally nothing different about the basic components (LED, accelerometer, textile, materials, etc.). If anything, the Apple Watch has more components. If you ever figure out what happened, I'd love to know more!

Been debating on Whoop for a long time. Mainly because I am currently doing very little hard cardio ( purposely ). Lost over 100lbs years back. My biggest mistake back then was not doing enough homework and failing to do any weight lifting during that loss. And now I am trying to correct that by building muscle. I am mainly interested in the sleep / recovery aspect of the Whoop. Im just wondering if I will get accurate information without any dedicated elevated HR cardio ? I am a mailman, average 15-25k steps a day depending on my working area. But my heart rate only gets slightly elevated. Not nearly like doing dedicated cardio. Would Whoop still recognize that activity ?

I’m a little confused why mine seems so inaccurate. For example I’ll sleep for 9 hours and it always has been under 7 usually around 5 and a half and my recovery has been in the yellow and red 90 percent of the time. Any help?

Wes I enjoy your insight on the topics you discuss. I know you hold the Whoop strap in high regards. Have you taken a look at the data from the Quantified Scientist ? It shows discrepancy in the data of what you are saying. He scientifically analyzed Whoop, Apple and Fitbit…. I came out of his videos a little more sceptical on these fitness trackers as a whole. If you do take a look on them I would appreciate your take on his data and do you still have the same believe in Whoop or any of them for that matter. I’m thinking your going to come up with an angle I didn’t see… Looking forward to your reply
@WesJH
@WesJH 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, he does a lot of work and a great job and breaking down his data. So in his conclusions on his WHOOP video he is very clear that there are limitations in his analysis, such as small data set, and he only tested on himself. I do wish he'd make this clear up front for the viewers as I know not everyone watches videos to completion. This is VERY important as optical sensing on fitness trackers can vary from person to person. There's so many factors that can cause differences in numbers (muscle density, skin tone, cleanliness, movement, and many more). They are not perfect. You do have a right to be skeptical in terms of relating the numbers to actual figures, but overall as you can see validated in his testing, they do a pretty good job at an estimation of fitness metrics as an average throughout the day. The important thing to note on these trackers is monitoring trendlines. This is what I generally do, and even I should be more cognizant of making sure the viewer knows this, as well. Hope that helps!

If poor sleep or over-reaching or poor diet, adversely affects HRV, why not just monitor HRV? HRV Elite gives a daily recovery score and it is free.

HRV can also go up with a combination of bad signals from your ANS. Other factors should be considered alongside HRV for a holistic review.

On the Apple Watch it’s recommend to do a one minute breathing session upon waking to increase the accuracy of the HRV read. Wouldn’t this resolve the issue with the variability throughout the day?

Whoop is not known for accuracy.. So many youtube reviews pan the Whoop accuracy. Just having the feature there doesn't mean it is accurate, at least based on the numerous reviews on Whoop.
@WesJH
@WesJH 3 жыл бұрын
I did a comparison video against the Polar H10, which is considered the state of the art in terms of consumer grade heart rate tracking. WHOOP did just fine in terms of overall heart rate tracking. No device is going to be 100% accurate, or as accurate as ECG monitors. There are more scientific breakdowns on YT that validate this, as well as clinical studies. I've even heard numerous clinicians state they'll utilize WHOOP to aggregate 24/7 of study subjects. One thing to keep in mind that optical sensing does in fact have limitations, and that's true for every device (e.g. apple watch, Garmin devices). I go more in depth on it in my "Most accurate" calorie tracker review of the Apple Watch.
