Interesting point. For most the opposite, or for 'many.' I grew up with instruments and then moved to software and find that ANY instrument (I include controllers) enables a speedy finish to things in unfinished project folder. I'd say it's software that makes most folks UPF (unfinished project folder) bulge.

I “rehomed” my standalone after two days. My reasoning is the following: #1 somebody REALLY wanted it. #2 mine came a couple months sooner than I expected and summertime here is insanely busy for me. #3 lack of arranger mode. #4 my AKAI Force is still superior in nearly every way at this time. I’ll get another one (controller probably) at some point. I like it a lot, but as I have the Force and a Push2, it just wasn’t compelling enough for me to have $2000 tied up in it at the moment.

The lack of mpe support seems to be an industry wide thing. I think most plugin developers are waiting for midi 2.0 which is supposed to basically be mpe on steroids. Even the FL devs have straight up said mpe is just a stop gap and it doesnt make sense designing for mpe when it will be replaced so they dont even have any of their plugins or software support it.
@matthewgaines10 Жыл бұрын
MIDI 2.0 has been out already as a standard. Not a lot of people support it because like MPE, it’s a solution seeking a problem. Most people aren’t demanding it. A keyboard with aftertouch, pitch and mod wheels can pretty much do the same thing. MPE is great but not everyone is buying the MPE hardware that is on the market. Manufacturers aren’t rushing to include MIDI 2.0 without the demand.
@_oe_o_e_ Жыл бұрын
Sounds like footdragging. I get why you dont want to invest of what can be a losing horse, but like 10-20 years ago software and hardware companies were adopting EVERY new “standard”. It’s kinda the only way to get a standard at the end of the day.
@NewMateo Жыл бұрын
@matthewgaines10 huh your right. Spec was released just under a year ago. Looks like only a few oems have support atm. Maybe a year isn't enough time to get it into their newer products? Either that or they dont have much of an incentive to move fast. Ive used mpe and its really nice but the lack of support for both that and I guess 2.0 really blows imho.

People should realize that a laptop + midi controller is going to be just as efficient of a workflow. There's nothing inherently special about having physical buttons for all of the parameters vs. using a mouse to drag them. My personal reason for getting the Push (2) is because I sit at a computer all day for work. I want to have access to music production while on my couch or wherever and not staring at a screen, it feels less straining mentally.

One of things which make me a bit annoyed at the marketing and videos about the Push 3 is that they talk about MPE this and that like the Push 3 was the first MPE controller with that form factor. The Roger Linn LinnStrument has been on the market since 2014 and while it doesn't have the fancy screen, knobs and such, it has twice the amount of pads (128 on the smaller 128 version, 256 on the larger one), is class compliant, can be used in mobile devices and all settings for it are configured on the unit itself, which makes it trully cross platform, as all the device will see is a class compliant MIDI controller. And Roger Linn himself along with a few people compiled a list of MPE compatible presets for SurgeXT.
@avationmusic Жыл бұрын
I only want the Push 3 for MPE, but it’s not nearly worth it just for that. I have a Push 2, and as you said, I pretty much just use it for the encoders and pads. Maybe one day if I have stupid money to waste😂

Here's the thing with MPE though: As nice as it is, it's not like you would make a full MPE album, would you ? Meaning, yeah, nice to have for a track or two, but not important enough for me to upgrade to P3 from P2. I had GAS when it came out and thought i definitely need MPE, but then i realized i probably would only use it on a few tracks, thus not really worth it.

Can't people just use the pitch bend and expression control or pedal to get “mpe“?

My biggest point with a MPE device ( not the Push. I want a LinnStrument instead) is the small footprint for the amount of notes you have coupled with the pattern based interface. While I can comfortably find space for even the larger LinnStrument on my desk, having a full 88 key controller requires some pre-planning and compromises to be made.
