As cruel as it sounds to say, she sounds like a serial bad decision maker. Ejected from the car because no seatbelt while also being 'stuck by a truck' usually translates to 'swerved violently from lane to lane' or 'pulled out from a line of stopped traffic into a a moving one without looking' as far as car versus truck crashes go in Australia. And looking at the footage, she just climbs up onto the track with the train RIGHT THERE and doesn't even react to it, just acts like she's out of a hike and more worried about where she's putting her feet. She seemed to have zero care for what's going on around her by the looks of things
@Commenter839

Yeah... I felt for her when it was mentioned that she'd been in 2 major car accidents beforehand, but after hearing how she was ejected from her car due to not wearing a seatbelt, it sorta clicked for me. She didn't seem like the brightest bulb out there, to put it mildly. Her habit of acting without regard for the people around her eventually cost her, and while I can't say she *deserves* to be permanently and severely crippled, I also can't say I have much sympathy. This would've been a very easy Darwin award if she didn't survive

It seems like she had a series of truly poor decisions. I feel for her family, I've loved my stupid cat before but at some point you need to take responsibility for your own actions. They should be mad at their daughter, not the park. But I do think there could be more in place to prevent these types of people from having their families file frivolous lawsuits on the part of their oblivious relatives...

Perhaps, but in saying such would say that you yourself have never made a foolish decision, such as speeding, driving without a seatbelt, driving too fast for conditions, having “one quick drink” before driving home, unprotected sex, etc...all of which can instantly have unfortunate life changing results with varying degrees of severity

@@FortisKnight Oh yes, I have done all of that. But I didn't fucking blame someone else? I was in a severe car crash in my twenties after heavy drinking with my friends and we totaled a car and we could all have died in that crash but managed to walk away with just minor scratches. That was the one thing that made me thank my lucky star that I was still alive. And it made me change my life because I reckoned the next time I wouldn't be so lucky. With reckless behaviour, you only have so much luck, and I reckoned I had overdrawn my luck account. And I reckoned the next time I would do something equally foolish I would probably die. I get being young and having a sense of invincibility, but I would have thought already having had a serious accident, she’d be more cautious. I wonder if she had some lingering brain injury from one of her previous accidents that made her more impulsive than usual. That definitely is a risk for people with bad concussions and traumatic brain injuries. Sorry to see most of her luck run out. Sounds like she might not ever live independently again. Yeah but I’m confused why the family was upset about them reopening the ride. She was certainly old enough and experienced enough to know better. The owners did their due diligence and made sure it was safe.

I struggle to meet the costs of my health needs because through no fault I live with a chronic health condition, yet I don't ask for any handouts. Being in a car accident while not wearing a seat belt, was the decision she made that day that left her with injuries. I wonder if she was responsible for that accident as well, because she was certainly responsible for the catastrophic trauma she received when she breached the safety barrier. It's sad for the family that this woman was incapable of learning a lesson; now they will have to pay in more ways than one for the rest of her life. She has cost the Victorian taxpayers probably hundreds of thousands of dollars already and yet the family bleat that the ride should have been closed. The ride wasn't the problem; she was!

Its good, the title says "tragedy" instead of "accident", coz this is not an accident. This is, Im sorry to say, sheer stupidity on her part. While no1 deserves that kind of injuries, she clearly has a pattern of brainless and impulsive behavior and have been extremely lucky on previous occasions. When theres safety barriers and warning signs, and she still chose to ignore the warnings and climb the fence and climb onto the tracks with a constantly running rollercoaster, the result is obvious. As the comedian George Carlin once said: "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that". He had more to say in continuation, but u can look that up, if u choose, I think, the initial quote describes this very well. And u cannot expect society to constantly shield ppl like Shylah from their own choices, however stupid, that would grind society to a halt. At some point, Shylah and the rest of us have to take responsibility for our own choices and actions. And she had plenty of warning aside from just plain friggin logic and survival instinct here. Im not saying that to mock her, but we need to focus on these things not happening by accident, we cant keep focusing on ppl deliberately getting into harms way despite all warnings and safety measures. The only silver lining here is, that she didnt hurt any1 else, coz far too often such actions and those in her car accidents do hurt others.
