Hi, I love your channel. I would be happy to have more videos, especially the ones analyzing Charlie Parker solos. I'm studying Parker's style and I really find your videos were eye opener. Especially with your explanation about his voice leading which seems crucial in his lines construction. Are there any other sources about Parker's voice leading? Despite serious research, I didn't find anything serious or right about it. You help will be appreciated.

The only book I've seen that talks about Parker's voice leading is Henry Martin's 'Charlie Parker and Thematic Improvisation'. Martin uses Schenkerian analysis to show Parker's voice leading lines on various tunes. The trouble with this approach is that in my opinion it misses certain aspects that are particular to Jazz. Martin see's thermatic lines that are not really there and lines that are there he misses. Charlie Parker was one of the great blues players of the 1940s so you have to always be aware of that. Martin sometimes misrepresents blue notes as non harmonic whereas I would say they are essential to the way Parker is thinking. When I get the time we will be looking at Parker's early life and solos and explore where many of his lines came from.

@@bebopreview3187 Hi, thanks for your quick reply. I think you should do an in-depth video about Parker's voice leading (I know it could be time-consuming…). But already: thanks for what you have done so far. Very useful.

I'm going to be starting a series on the early development of Charlie Parker and exploring the origin of many of his lines. (Someone asked me about an explanation of the Patterns found in Owens dissertation so that is really what I'll be trying to do). Part of this series will explore U.S society up to and after Parker's birth because you can't separate his music from the social pressures that formed it.
