Back in the golden days, engineer rushing was absolutely hilarious and frowned upon. Engineers are absolutely OP and exploitable. Nothing is as memorable as that one time I rushed a base using a bunch of repair IFVs and four grizzlies and slowly selling off my opponent's base.

Red Alert 2 was the first RTS I ever played when I was like nine years old. I had no idea what I was doing (still don't,) but the bright, detailed art and quirky aesthetic really appealed to child me (still does.) Still one of the greatest RTS's ever made, here's hoping they do a remaster of it soon like they did the first. If not, at least we still have Mental Omega

I love this game, it's a cult classic, but at the same time I think it's the one to blame for all the silliness of the Red Alert timeline. RA1 also had dumb stuff but it was overall a "serious" game about an alternate WWII/Cold War gone wrong with even some dark undertones. Red Alert 3 may be the worst of all in that sense, but it was RA2 who started the trend, with giant squids and soviets so cartoonishly evil that they have a Psychic bald/Lenin trying to mind-control the world💀💀

In RA2, it's mostly the Allied Campaign that was campy. The Soviets was campy at the beginning but begins to have a more serious tone when Yuri becomes the antagonist. Sadly in Yuri's Revenge, almost all the seriousness goes out the window and in RA3, the seriousness was non existent

It was still made by the same people that did RA1, and with RA2 they've fully realized their vision. RA3 was made by completely different set of people, and while game was not bad, design, tone and story were ridiculous.

Something I've always wondered... How does a single engineer *instantly* capture an enemy structure the moment he steps inside? Like, some fucking nerd goes into an occupied barracks, full of armed enemy soldiers, possibly elite units, and in rare cases an enemy commando, and he *instantly* takes it over. Are engineers secretly the deadliest fighters in the world, but are too shy to show it on the battlefield?

in RA1, he can only capture a building if its HP is in the red if HP is not red, he would damage it instead by some amount so you may need the whole APC of engineers to actually capture a single building; it makes an engineer rush a lot less effective they didn't keep this mechanic in later C&C games

I think it become popular again thanks to mod like Mental Omega APYR. Anyway, I love how so "2000s campy" the cutscenes of Red Alert 2 & Yuri's Revenge are. Especially the scene with CEO Bing of the Massivesoft Corporation lol.. it was obviously a tease at Bill Gates of the Microsoft Corporation.😂 The sprite-based graphics of Red Alert 2 is much better-detailed than early 3D low poly graphics of Red Alert 3.

I was like 10 or 12 when i played red alert 2. I was drawing battlemaps and making strategic plans of attack and defense coz i was frustrated with the allies' defensive lines. Using kirovs was the best part.
