It’s a running gag throughout the entire series. Very rarely do they solve it before the time is up. In a very early episode when Red is actually the contestant, he solves it immediately... Lol

Just a running gag. The word game is for the jokes not solving the answer. Also they usually don't actually even get the clues or the word, they just say something random and get it right.

It’s not about the winning, it’s about the jokes...it’s three joke parts: the prize, the wrong answers, and the accidental winning by guessing when saying something unrelated Red won it once because the joke was Harold’s funny reaction to the answer and Gord won it once just randomly guessing answers. They dropped the endings at times when the games went long so there’s games where they didn’t really win, but stopped that after season 7
