Its not how checks work, but it is how cheques work the Canadian equivalent. Looks exactly the same but if the spelling is cheque it is in Can$. You don't need to go to an American bank there are different checks for the currencies that have them and they will covert it for you to local currency. You can kind of work for Americans and convert it for more, less these days then in the past and even then you don't really have more money then if an American came and shopped in Canada. It depends on what you buy too like medicine and some food or whatever will be cheaper in Canada, but milk and smokes are often way cheaper in the US for example. The last time I went down I got some smokes so I know that difference roughly lol I pay like $14US a pack in Canada versus the like $5 something I paid in the states.
