THE RED-HOT SNOW TENT. ALONE AND HAPPY

Winter is finally back in Northern Canada. I am so pumped to set up a hot tent and use it in the cold weather again. Nothing beats camping in the snow and fighting to keep warm. In this video, I am setting up a bear tent and I am making really tiny kindling and I'm eating bannock and bacon and I'm fixing a super old Coleman Stove.

I believe those stoves take a few minutes to warm up before they perform at full pressure. The tube goes over top of the first burner so it can further vaporize the fuel travelling through it, but takes a few minutes of heating up before it can do so.

Correct. I used to use these a lot in the late 90's early 00's during my Army days.

Yep, I used to put some alcohol gell on the burner under the generator and light that, to preheat the generator, then, just before the gell burned out, I would slowly open the gas and it would lite easily.

Love the video, Jay! When I'm watching you struggle with some of the challenges, I just want to say, "hey, try this..." I wanted to suggest putting a loop of cord on your tent stake loops, so you could use bigger wood stakes without compromising your tent. Also wanted to suggest burying the stakes under snow, but then noticed you only had an inch of snow or less. Here I am making comments, but you're the guy out there braving the elements. LOL Great job, my friend! I learn from you all the time! (I had to look up "bannock")

The flame on the Coleman stove need to be blue. If there is any yellow in the flame it will soot the bottom of the pan. The little lever on the left side, according to Coleman, up is to light, down is for cook. I think the heating of the fuel through the tube is what gives it a cleaner burn? Just my guess on that, but I have owned and used them for over 30 years.

That rotating lever needs to be rotated a few times to clean the needle. Then you turn the gas all the way on and set the flame via the lever. The dial isn't used for flame control.

I’m glad winter is back, those old Coleman stoves can be a bit tricky, the last commenter was absolutely right, the burner below the tube is to warm up the gas, once it’s warmed up the burners should look like the propane stove. Stay safe till next time

I live in southern Arizona so don't see much snow that sticks but would love to do a hot tent camp some day. Looks like it could be a really good time with the right gear. I’ve used Coleman white gas stoves for decades. They are great when you want more heat than most propane stoves can deliver. You did a good job with it but I wouldn’t recommend using it inside. The generator turns the liquid fuel into vapor when it gets hot enough. The risk is getting too much liquid fuel to the burner before the generator is hot enough to vaporize it. Thanks for the video Jay !
