Huh, first time I noticed that Goku defending a troop of monkeys against an evil army might be a reference to Journey to the West. Kinda just thought they forgot about that inspiration until that one filler episode after this arc. But to be fair, the Ox-King is pulled directly from Journey to the West, and he was in the past couple episodes, so maybe it was just on their mind when they were working on this one?

mmm interesting thought. Movies or no movies? There are few movies that aren't completely contradictory to the main series so i think those are ok (like Garlic Jr.) However i think just watching the series and only watching some select movies is smart. (Movie 13 is also a good one that doesn't contradict)

Oh yeah the Red Ribbon Army is so sadistic, as a kid I used to think all militants were like this. Though yes, they're trained to be ruthless they're also careful. Anyway, this is an episode that the Latin American dub sometimes skipped over, and the next ones, all of the Colonel Silver forces mini arc, in fact. I don't know why, but I might have an idea: There was a day where I don't know why, they aired the missing episodes... only, the names and voices were different: Goku was called "Cero" (Zero), Krillin was called Cachito, etc. it was odd but I was glad to have some closure on how this arc ended and how the next began. So that leads me to think there was a... conflict between dubbing companies? That's my best guess, at least.

I think Roshi will wish for being a young man😂. His weird antics will be justified. Goku's relationship with monkeys is fun as he's also a monkey boy😂. This episode has a deep meaning - humans going against nature which is a classic theme in anime.
