Really looking forward to seeing your series on printing - whilst I've been happy w/ a couple of different labs I've used, I do believe that there is more I could get out of printing myself. But there is so much to learn, hopefully I can get kick-started by your series. Thanks for sharing your expertise!

Hi Alan... it's been a slow road getting into printing for me, too. Now that I'm doing it more, I have to say I'm really enjoying it. I'll try to get the next printing video done sooner than later :)

The proof is in the paper, as Hahnemuehle says.. I use their William Turner and satin papers. I use Canson Baryta Photographique, and Photographique II semigloss papers for black and white. You may want to try them also. That said, I've ordered Red River sample packs. I'll see how those gp.

Have fun with them, Romie. And thanks for the tip on the Canson papers.

@@ScottDavenport You bet. They're all excellent papers. In the final analysis it's subjective, what works best for you.

@@ScottDavenport Thank you, I will. Paper effects the perception of light that you captured and can either enhance or detract from your intent. I use several different papers and I'm always ready to try more that I think may help complete the image.

A series on the printing process would be welcome.

Yes, would like to see a series on printing - A to Z do it yourself and sending out - set up for printing on materials other than paper would be a bonus.

Thanks Paul. I'll be starting with the DIY prints on inkjet printers. I'd also like to print some of my work on metal and acrylic, although there's a cost hurdle. I have sent out some small items to a local print lab... I'll see how that goes before doing anything larger. And I'll take copious notes :)

I'd like to second Paul M's suggestion. I'm looking at getting back into printing and things have moved on a fair bit since I last did it. 'Red River'. Do they Rock...? Sorry, I was just going... :-)

Gotcha, Chris. And yes... they rock. And roll. All night long.

Great intro, Scott, and I really want to hear more. Specifically, which printer and ink combination are you using? Also, are you employing ICC profiles provided by Red River, or did you create your own - which you alluded to in last week's X-Rite video?

My printer is an Epson P800. I'll have to check on the ink (I know it's Epson branded). For the bake-off, I used the printer/paper profiles from Red River (which worked very well by the way). Profiling a printer/paper combination takes some time, and I didn't have enough paper stock to print the test pages required for calibration.
