This story moved me deeply. I became emotionally invested in the characters through the unfolding drama. Furthermore, a mystical element, even spiritual, though grounded in harsh reality. A masterpiece of animation and visual storytelling.

emily f yes, he kind of does lol. Obviously Miyazaki is an Asian, and Dudok De Wit is European, but the feature is pretty similar. Same with Colonel Sanders lol.

For me this was true too. It lowered my expection on story and appreciate the art of it. Then the story develops into so much more.
