​@@j827 that's true but the ref waited too long. I don't blame him though. The problem is that Fury was falling around all over the place and unable to defend himself for quite some time. So the ref, if anything, should have stopped the fight there. The knockdown would have made sense if it happened in a short period of time. Like boom boom, 2 punches and the other person fell down. But fury was falling all over the place and completely out of it and not defending himself for too long. The referee technically should have stopped the fight while fury was unable to defend himself but since its a big fight, he should have let it continue like he did up to a point where he says okay he's not coming back. The difference between a knockdown and a knockout is how quickly someone recovers and is conscious and able to defend themselves. They get given an 8 second count if they're not completely put out but that always happens much earlier than in this fight. In this fight, the ref let it continue and whenever this happens, the ref is now looking for a TKO. He is on the verge of stopping the fight because the opponent is on his feet but can't defend himself. I don't blame the ref though. If he stopped the fight and people figured out he was wrong, there would have been a massive backlash. The ref didn't have much time to figure it out either and it is a bit of a negative when it comes to boxing. This type of situation. I hate complexities and technicalities in sports. The simpler it is, the better. If I have to remember a bunch of rules since they aren't obvious, I'm out.

Usyk was robbed though, because the corrupt referee stepped in round 9 to save fury when usyk was battering him and gave fury a very long count, if it wasn't for this, Usyk would have won by round 9 tko. Also the corrupt 2nd judge gave fury the win to save his career, if it wasn't for this, Usyk would have won by unanimous decision not split decision. I think the ref had two choices in round 9; either stop the fight and call it a KO because Fury was out on his feet and being held up by the ropes, or call it a knockdown and give Fury a standing 8 count which is what he did. I think the second option was ok because that's within the rules of boxing and that's up to the referee's discretion. However, what he can't and should not have done is effectively given Fury a 20 second count allowing him to then be saved by the bell and recover. The other unforgivable decision was the one judge who called the fight for Fury and made it a split decision. That was a joke. All that money spent on the fight and they still can't get decent fight officials?

Well, in fairness, the referee's no.1 priority is the safety of the fighters. When he saw that Fury, in his opinion, was unable to protect himself, he had no choice but to interrupt the action and give the standing 8 count.

Nope! It would have been a correct call by the ref if he had given a standing count the very instant Fury hit the ropes. He waited. At this point, given a standing count wouldnt make sense again. Now its either Usyk finishes him off or the Ref stops the fight

@@victoraire378 ...nope. Fury was regularly hitting the ropes during the fight. Obviously, the referee didn't think Fury was unable to protect himself every time he bounced off the ropes, otherwise Fury would've received dozens of "standing 8 counts" for each time that he hit the ropes.

@@victoraire378 ... don't forget that I qualified the referee's actions by stating "in his opinion." Perhaps another referee might have had a different opinion and not interrupted the fight, thinking that Fury was still able to protect himself, but that was a judgment call.

Back in 1986 I put a tenner on a horse called "Roll a Joint" to win the Grand National. The poor horse fell at a fence, broke its leg and had to be shot. When the ref jumps in it should be to stop the fight, not help one of the boxers. He pushes Usyk away, give fury about 15 seconds, then helps fury back to his corner. fury was not fit to continue after that 8 count and the fight should have been over. BTW i actually don't think that ref did fury any favours long term as fury took a lot of clean accurate punches from usyk right until the 12th round, and he's taken a lot of punches the last few fights, i think fury is a shot fighter and his punch resistance has gone.

3:13 Watch this carefully in slow motion. Fury has fallen backwards into the turnbuckle and completely dazed. And Usky is about to launch an overhand left. But Usyk stops himself! Usky actually refrained from throwing the left hand on Fury when seeing Fury's eyes glazed. The referee intervened after. The ref didn't stop Usyk from throwing a big blow on a dazed Fury. Usyk seemed like he had sympathy for Fury there and didn't want to hurt him more when seeing Fury completely disoriented.

I agree. Referee should have not blocked Usyk from throwing one more punch as Fury went down. It would have been a knock down…Tyson was exhausted.
