We had less money. My brothers collected pop bottles from garbage bins and the gutter, took them to the five and dime for refund (2¢ a bottle) then headed over to the bait shop. They sold and traded used comics. Can you imagine todays kids buying used comics? They brought home a pile too! Richie Rich, Lil LuLu, Archie, Superman, Spiderman, Thor, Justice League. After we did our chores we spent the rest of the day reading. And playing the radio. What fun!

I used to put in a blank cassette, and record almost every song that played. I loved it at 14, I love it at 35, and I'll love it when I'm 75. 1950's through the 1980's had so much GREAT music!

On this day in 1965 {April 17th} the Reflections performed "(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet" on the Los Angeles-based syndicated television program 'Shivaree'... One year earlier on April 5th, 1964 "(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet" entered Billboard's hot Top 100 at position #86; seven weeks later it would peak at #6 {for 1 week} and it spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... And on May 3rd, 1964 the song peaked at #3 {for 2 weeks} on the Cash Box R&B Singles* chart; the two weeks it was at #3, the #2 record was "I'm So Proud" by the Impressions and the #1 record was "My Guy" by Mary Wells... * Between Nov. 30th, 1963 and Jan. 23rd, 1965 Billboard Magazine did not publish a R&B Singles chart...
