“The Relative Merits” was written as a tribute to the incredible talent and resolve of my colleagues and mentors during a desperate hour for the music industry. The piece is dedicated to my professor, Michael Burritt, whose compositions are as thoughtful as they are fun to listen to. The piece was written for my four classmates, David Dong, Andrew Lauler, Elise Liu, and Tristan Swihart, whose love for music-making and sheer talent will always inspire me. Beautiful piece. :) The snare is a nice, interesting juxtaposition to the mallet work. Nice interconnected lines written between the instruments. The videography, intensity captured here is fantastic. Handheld camera right in there, different angles... Love the title drop with the opening chords after the ascending lines, also blur to focus effects. Great work from a focused performance team.
