Used to love the larue SPR mount for MPVO use. But I'm interested in how your conversation mostly revolved around parallax and presentation issues vs raising the max ordinate on your zero. What's your view on how raising the scope increases the max ordinate?

Usually not much of an issue on 556 guns since you’re typically not shooting far enough to run out of adjustment. But if it’s a concern you can get a 20moa mount.

Good stuff, I might look into risers but I've been very happy with my unity fast lpvo mount. Works great alot less fatigue and strain on the neck and gives me more awareness. I've really grown to love the headsup shooting style because I do alot more moving around. I'd say probably 15 to 20 percent of shooting i do is proned out or stationary stuff from a bench so i guess that's why it doesnt bother me. Comes down to training.

If it’s working for you in a well rounded variety of plausible shooting positions, that’s the real bottom line. But I would say this isn’t about prone and bench shooting. This is about achieving practical accuracy at very reasonable rifle caliber distances at speed. It could be shooting off a barricade, or kneeling or even standing. For many people, maybe not you, but from what I’ve witnessed in many classes and matches - when we’re shooting 100 yards and beyond, the lack of a cheek weld makes getting hits on anything but very large size targets with any degree of speed very challenging. If people are only shooting 50 yards and in, people may never notice a problem. If people are not shooting with time constraints, they may never notice. But I feel that with a rifle (especially with a magnified optic) you should be able to shoot at distances up to 400 or more and make hits (at appropriate speed) on targets that are let’s say A Zone size from 0-200 and maybe C-Zone or better from 200 and beyond. If you’ve tried that, and there’s lots of drills to test this, and you’re making time and score, awesome. Keep going and keep trying for better times and higher scores! But if not, there’s a weak link somewhere and our shooting is not living up to the potential of the gear. Sorry for lengthy reply.

@@2AF_com all good brotha, preciate the insight. I think the only thing I havent done is shoot with a timer at distance, but plenty within 100 yards. With a 20 inch down to a 13.7 in 5.56 I've effectively amd accurately been able to shoot out to 600. I've done it with irons, dots and more recently gotten into lpvo optics, they definitely hold the advantage. But it wasnt a big transition for me because I normally keep it at 1 power then when I go to shoot at any distance I'll spot the target, get behind the rifle then zoom in on it instead of huntin around at higher magnification. My best day I've made hits accurately with a 20 inch 556 at 700 with irons. With shorter guns with optics about 500 normally, including a 10.5, but that was only one day. On average with a 10.5 I dont press past 300, my 13.7 I can confidently shoot out to 500. Just now I guess I need to put a timer to it but I'd say if i had to guess i could probably acquire, get a good sight picture and hit a 10 inch plate out to 400 mabey.... 8 times within 15 seconds or so with the guns and optics I have. I've never done competition shooting, I'm just an avid hunter and outdoorsman that also likes the tactical world. I too am sorry for the long winded response.

The Defoor “Hat Qual” drill is an easy way to check this. All you need is a B8 target (we include one with almost every order from us), 100 yards, 10 rounds and a timer. At the buzzer, drop prone and shoot 10 rounds in 14 seconds or less. You have to score a 90 or better. If you can do that consistently it shows a lot. Connection to the gun, optic position, trigger efficiency etc. it’s also a cool drill to run since your gear doesn’t matter much. It’s plausible to do it with irons, red dots alone or with magnifier, LPVOs or regular scopes, and your score doesn’t change (much). If you haven’t seen it already, here’s a clip of me doing it with a scoped gun with bipod. Niel, great videos man! I can’t wait for your channel to get bigger, you have some seriously great content coming out since creating the channel. Do you have any advice for the younger me who dreamed of getting into the gun industry but went the corporate training route (my other dream instead)? I would have killed to work in the industry (not selling at corporate gun shops making little to no money). Advice for the civilian with little money who would die to make a living doing this, meeting all the greats as you have mentioned in your videos, and getting some really unique and interesting pieces along the way? I have a wife and 3 month old son, we live solely on my income and I do ok but the Biden administration has made that tough as can be. I’m not looking to change anything but I’ve always wondered how people get to your level without being a garand thumb, Lucas Botkin, Chris from SAS, or Chad from SOTAR. Thank you, and thanks for the great clone vids. I can’t get enough

Thanks a ton for your comment and thanks for being here with us. That’s a lot to unpack. It wasn’t my intention to be in the gun industry, I started out thinking it would just be a part time job. But I did enjoy it and once I did get in, it quickly took over. With only just recently having started my own company, I feel like I’ve got a long way to go before I’d really consider myself to be successful, but I’m going to be persistent and have confidence that I’ll get there. For anyone who wanted to get into especially the sales side… Shoot a lot and shoot around (and with) a lot of people. The things you’ll see for yourself and witness with others will give you experience with a lot of products and brands. Treat and talk to people the way you wish you could be treated and talked to. And I always try to approach things with the realization that in my life, the people who thought they knew the most just didn’t realize how much they didn’t know yet, and the people who knew the most have usually been aware that they still had a lot to learn. Running a P4Xi in a Badger C1 1.70" mount. It's been solid. I can do MOA with a 4-power optic consistently. Many times it's glass quality over magnification that gets you performance.

I’ve found 1.7” height to be manageable with a low power optic. Without a cheek riser, It does take more effort when you have to turn up the speed

In fact I like to see scope shadow . I use it as a tool to perfectly center my reticle

I mention that seeing centered scope shadow is sometimes preferred. And the type of centering the reticle in the view of your optic that I’m talking about can happen even if your scope/reticle has been perfectly leveled/centered when mounting.
