In the Hungarian tradition, in our ancient writing, liliom is the reading of two syllables from top to bottom. The reading means god (in Hungarian: IS-TEN). The upper, larger part of the symbol containing two lilies represents the parent god, the lower, smaller lily represents the child god. It was put on a compass so that we remember that God shows the true direction. The king's scepter and crown were placed in order to remember that the king's power comes from God.

I've always attributed the religious use of the fleur de lis as a symbol of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. IMO it also looks like a natural artistic rendering of the Cross.

It's also a symbol of the north and immaculate conception (hence it's link to Mary). Sometimes the lilly or another flower is used in a myth as to what caused a virgin's pregnancy. Look up older compass roses or compasses and sometimes the northern spoke has this symbol on it. That gets into northern symbolism which is another topic of conversation. Great video, thanks.

The Fleur-de-Lis, is also found a great deal in The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose California. It adorns the wood railings, Tiffany stained glass windows, and laminae wall paper . For the creator of the house, Sarah Winchester believed it symbolized the Blessed Trinity. The connection of mind, body and Soul/ Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As a child, I was entranced by the numbers of this beautiful flower in the house. A 160 Victorian mansion, that my grandparents were the live-in caretakers and managers of the Winchester House for 36 years. I spent every summer of my childhood and my teen years. After graduating from High School, I became a tour guide there, and my tours marvelled at the presense of this symbol of purity, courage and strength placed throughout the house.

My childhood home had a fleur-de-lis on the bottom of the stairs, the large post (not sure what it's called), and also had some wheat underneath. The story goes in my family that it either used to be a church or a convent before they bought the home. I know in the attic (we used it as bedrooms had what I assume used to be part of a bell, that was in the window frame, we eventually had them tied down because the wind would cause it to make loud knocking noises.

Not true, brother is what people used to call relatives at that time and you read that term throughout the Bible, that's what "your mother and brothers came to see you" means. Mary only had Jesus and Joseph was chaste. Both consecrated their lives to God and remained chaste, that's why Joseph is confused at first when she becomes pregnant.
