The city of darkness is what it was called. In Hong Kong hides the memory of gangs, illicit activities, and unlicensed dentists. This is the search for the remains of Kowloon walled city.

Hey everyone, thanks for stopping by. There is a much better video of Kowloon's walled city out there. But I thank you for stopping by and checking out a slightly more humorous version of what you can see. If you'd like to see more videos from Asia, I'd recommend subscribing. If not that's ok too! Thanks again for being here!

I've always been intrigued by the Walled City. I was made aware of its existence via a video game called Shenmue 2 and ever since then have been fascinated by the old footage and documentaries a truly intriguing place! Great video m8.

He also said "interesting they decided to build up not out" SMH idiot, they were refugees that existed in a lawless loophole area, neither the Chinese or British would allow ANY expansion of the territory so the built up 14 stories till the British put.a stop to the air rights for the Hong Kong airport. And it did NOT remain under Chinese governance, it was literally controlled owned and run by the triads by the late 1970s.....what's fascinating to me is that in 15 minutes of research I found out 10x what this guy did....and he went there vloged it 😂

Way before Shenmue 2, the Walled City was used as a backdrop for Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell in 1995. Unfortunately all the HK cityscape was scrapped when Hollywood did the live action (AKA soulless) version.

Very interesting. You were in the Anata noWarehouse, now you were (almost) at the real deal! It's crazy to think that it was ever a real place. All pictures from the inside look so surreal. Like something a film set designer would come up with. Never knew they actually have a memorial for it. Thought they would just try to ignore that it ever existed.

Had the British or Chinese government offered any alternative to the residents of Kowloon in all the years it existed they might have had some legitimately in pulling it down. As it happens this was a clear crime against humanity. The fact it was a shot hole is irrelevant.

It is such a crazy feeling to experience this video of a city in China. With all that we know about China as a whole, seeing how honestly good the general city scape looks, despite even the remains of the Walled City still being present and definitely not up to snuff in terms of polish. It makes me sometimes wonder how: A. The Walled City could ever have existed or rather become a relaity and B. How much of what we see online about China actually ends up true (A lot of course will still be true regardless but even hearing that you cant record in china at all and here is Yuken openly recording videos in china and posting them online for the world to see. I guess its another pin in the lesson known as "Dont believe everything you read on the internet")

Oh my gosh! I am going to H.K. alone this September for the first time in my life. Without knowing much about the city, I booked a hotel in the center of Kowloon City last night. My Chinese friend from H.K. told me I do not need to worry too much about traveling anywhere in H.K. alone as it is quite a safe place. After booking the hotel, I just happened to find your video and started to feel nervous and worried. Do you think I should NOT go to the place alone or is it really much different from the past and I can walk around alone outside safely? Please give me some advice. Thank you in advance. :-)

@@yumiyumig I'm out in Tokyo myself and Hong Kong is as about as dangerous as Shinjuku at night or Nishinari in Osaka. Which is don't wave your phone around wildly or hold out a ton of money in your hands. You'll be fine. If you are going to Disney, Mystic Manor is on point.

Wow! I have just watched your whole video once again. The Kowloon city park (2:20-5:00) looks like an amazing place to visit. The museum is FREE? I gotta go there for sure though it must give me lots of heartbreaking facts about the past. :-( And the city itself looks sooooooo old with many old tall buildings here and there. Since the park opens at 6:30 am, I guess I can wake up very early in the morning and go there by bus from my hostel. I live in Tokyo, and have visited Shinjuku hundreds of times even late at night, so I see your point of "using common sense" and I will definitely do so during my visit there. I can't wait for my trip next month! Thanks for sharing such a good piece of information here on youtube!!!😄
@Yukendoit11 ай бұрын
Yeah that museum is free but 6:30 am is super early. There are a ton of things with in a 10 minute walk away from the park. If you happen to be there on Wednesday the space museum is free then.
