Hey @alpine_squad I enjoy your videos 👍 couple of questions as I'm planning to attempt in late December with a mate. Is it required to protect scrambling up single cone? How long is the rappell down? Is there down climb on there route you came up too sketchy? We're not planning doing the grand traverse, just submit

Hey man, thanks for the love! Appreciate your kind words. For most of the year, the chimney is filled with snow, but during mid to late summer, it will be fully melted out, making it more of a scramble. You can actually downclimb it without much drama. In December, there might still be some snow in the chimney. We were there in early March, and it was clear. A 30m rope is good for the summer there. There are three double-bolted abseil anchors inside the chimney and one at the base. The only tricky section without the rope might be the Southeast Ridge Slab Traverse from the ridge to the beginning of the chimney, but it depends on your confidence on rock. It would still be advanced scrambling, though, I guess. Have a look at the following article for some photos and inspiration: www.summitpost.org/single-cone-the-remarkables/968475

Could you do it without having to do any pitching up and down? If time wasn't an issue?

Hey, good question. In summer, it’s totally possible if you handle the exposure well. It’d be 10-12 AU rock climbing grade, in some paces might be a bit wet. There’s only one 10m step between the cones where people usually repel down, but we’ve seen guys down climbing it. In winter it’s going to be slightly different. Current record on the winter traverse is 01:20:00-ish, obviously without any protection 😂😎, but totally depends on one’s confidence level.

Hey, a good question, for a GT traverse, I’d personally pack the following gear: - Single rope 50m - Cams sizes - 0,5; 0,75; 1; 2;3; - A set of micro wallnuts - sizes 1-5 - 2x 180 or 240cm dyneema slings for anchors - 4x 120cm alpine runners - 2x 60cm alpine runners - 6mm cordelette (3-4m) - Nut tool (or an ice axe - depending on the time of the year) - Personal alpine gear such as an ATC, 2x screw gate carabiners each, snap link carabiners, tethers; prusik cords - whichever you prefer. - you may pack a piton, just in case, but I only needed it once within last 5 years.
