So let's do a deep dive here. Remember. Griffith has no idea that Guts overheard him talking to Princess Charrlotte about what a friend is to him. And maybe what Griffith said was 99.9% true and he believes it about everyone else. But it becomes very clear by the way he reacts to Gut's departure that his previous statement didn't apply to him. Guts was the exception. That was his best friend. And until that moment in the stairs, Guts thought the same thing. The thing is, Guts is leaving because he still loves him. The only other person he had any kind of connection to was POS Gambino and he still tried his best to please him. He's leaving to find his own dream and become Griffiths equal and thus gain his respect. He just doesn't know that he already has it. it's actually really f**king sad.

I think corkus was actually really hurt by guts leaving the group he just wouldnt ever admit it. He saw what guts wanted an took it as a insult because he was perfectly happy with the life they had but when someone wasnt he couldnt understand why. His anger was his was of expressing he didnt want guts to leave if he truly wanted him gone he would have encouraged him an celebrated it

It makes sense why Guts would win, if you look back at the battles since he's joined he's been fighting the hardest battles pretty much solo (zodd, generals, commanders, etc) while Griffith got to take a back seat and lead the other men

Guts leaving, inspired to find and attain his own dream so that Griffith can regard him as a true brother. Griffith already regarding him as one, shocked to loose him, not knowing Guts overheard him at primrose hall.

You're right in saying what Griffith did was 100% emotional, he poured everything he had into Guts even confiding his fears of being seen as a bad person by him. Realistically Griffith never knew Guts' reason for leaving, he was just fine with him and his closest companion was Guts until this point but seemingly out of nowhere Guts wants to leave him. Emotionally that did break Griffith, he never knew abandonment, defeat, or utter rejection from anyone else until Guts beat him in their duel. Griffith threw everything away and just didn't care anymore, it was like nothing was real for him after their duel and he went and committed an attrocity. A real heavy handed episode and your reactions to it are absolutely amazing, loving the instant speculation and callbacks you guys do after something happens!!! If you don't want info on the Manga to TV difference on this episode then that's the end of the comment but if not, read ahead!(Same content, different location in the context) The part where Guts was walking away and talking indirectly to Griffith actually takes place as a memory for Griffith while Charlotte and Griffith are having their encounter. Griffith never stopped thinking about Guts for the rest of the night when he left

Yeah almost as if Guts was an extension of Griffith it seems like, But man! Can’t for what’s to come! So much hype around these last few episodes! Thanks for the heads up on the rest of the comment! 🙏🏼

You guys are cool; specially the vampire princess who doesn't speak much 😁. Makes you think how Megalomaniacs are sometimes more vulnerable than your average person when rejection or failure happens. It seems Guts represented that horse Griffith was never fully able to break, and broke him instead.

It's crazy cause griffith was depicted more so even as r*ping the princess in the manga, idk if it was mischaracterization or censoring that curbed it, but definetely an important aspect of griffiths character. The princess is too naive and young to even understand how awful griffith is in the moment

And this is from were gut's dilemma fucked up everything...which will bring unthinkable chain of events. Guts could have confronted Griffith with his own dream dilemma and Griffith's relation with him rather than simply leaving. But in the end its an art of fantasy..Miura might had wanted it to be remembered for generations...and tragedies are remembered far longer than happy times.

Gut’s has mostly been a loner his whole life. His dialogue is often internal and he’s all action no talk a lot of the time. He isnt the type to talk his feelings out with Griffith about how what he heard is giving him anxiety. That convo would have been really out of character for both of them, besides until that moment I don’t even think Griffith really understood how much he truly cared. What Guts did is what a G does.
