Remington Rolling Block is a family of breech-loading rifles that was produced from the mid-1860s into the early 20th century by E. Remington and Sons (later Remington Arms). The action was extremely strong, and could easily withstand the increased pressure of the new smokeless powders coming into use by the late 1880s.
These rifles were made in a variety of calibers, both rimfire and centerfire, including the 12.17x42 mm rimfire, 12.17x44 mm rimfire and 12.17x44 mm rimmed centerfire Swedish and Norwegian cartridges, .43 Spanish (11.15x58mmR), .50-70, .40-70, .45-70 and later in .22 caliber. Later models were produced in .30-06 Springfield, 7×57mm Mauser, and 8×50mmR Lebel.

I bought one by mail in the 60’s. They only sent me an action and a barrel. I wrote back and complained and they sent a butt stock. I was only about 14. Ten years later I visited an old time gun shop. The kind that had lots of unusual guns and ‘stuff’. I casually asked if the owner had any Rolling Block parts. “What do you need” he asked. I told him my story and he pulled out the fore end, barrel rings with sling swivels, ramrod and all the other small parts! Those were the days. I only paid $12 for the mail order “rifle”. The extra parts were about $50-$60 dollars. I’m 75 now and always been interested in old military rifles since the Bi-Centennial of the Civil War. 😊 Good Channel, thanks.

@@Real11BangBang I have a RB on hold at my LGS. Not sure of the caliber yet. I think it might be Swede RF converted to CF 12.17x44r. I'll know by May 1st. I do have others in other calibers too, just nor 43 yet. Now I'm gonna have to keep my eyes peeled.

I had a Remington Rolling block in .43 Spanish for a while, but mine had no military markings at all, AND it was a civilian gun that apparently was one of many that was sold commercially somewhere in the US instead of being issued to a military according to the big Remington Rolling block book and they were popular for that because they were cheaper than a Sharps. It was the problems getting brass with mine that made me decide to sell it and I got a Mauser 71 (not the 71/84 but the 71) that is more fun to shoot and I can actually get brass easier for that gun easier.

Awesome. I almost won one of these in a auction but that other feller kept outbidding me. Did you know the 43 Spanish is the same size as 41 Beaumont? As to how to make them: take a 50-70 case trim to size. Aneal then neck it in an 8mm Lebel die. Bell the neck in a 45LC die (or a 45ACP). Prime and load with powder. seat the bullet with a 45LC seating die.. The case needs to be then fire formed via one firing. I have made about 8 cases for my Beaumont that way. Unfortunately I crushed at least 2 cases for each one I made. It takes care and a deft hand.

I spent $208 on 13 pieces of brass, $91 on 100 bullets (I've since bought a mold for $100) and then around $35 for 2F black powder, my uncle gave me his old dies, and I've got primers on hand for my other rifles. It's expensive and VERY hard to find brass, but I love my rolling block. I got mine for $490 about 2 months ago. I for sure plan on taking it on a hunting trip at least once. And BTW, I was going to make the joke that if you're just gonna toss the brass on the ground, I would GLADLY take it off your hands for ya 😆

I love my rolling block. Just got it not too long ago, but the only problem is I don't know what caliber it is. Mine is a type 3 rolling block. Thought at first maybe it was a 45-70, but there was a little wiggle room when I inserted the 45-70 cartridge. So now I'm thinking it might be chambered in 43 spanish. My question is, did Remington make type 3 rolling blocks in 43 spanish?

As many of these 43 Spanish rifles that are out there, you would think reloading for them would not be such a pain in the wallet. Buffalo Arms sells the .43 Spanish ammo, well they say they do but it is always out of stock. Did you refinish it or did someone else? Either way it looks good!

Was thinking 300 BO with slow lead in the summer, maybe stretch to caribou in fall, or recently .357 mag has been kicking around as well.
