I owned an Avantime for 14 years and loved it from the moment I set eyes on it in, in fact I would say that I am still in love with the design and actually feel a little jealous of owners when I see one on the road (which sadly is vert rare). They still look astonishing and have amazing presence. The only issue I had was what the hell do you replace it with and it took a Tesla Model S to convince me to let go of the Avantime. @flemingpandel52874 жыл бұрын
Having owned a 2008 Espace for a while, I must admit I have a soft spot for these. My dad was also considering a diesel Avantime in the early 2000s. The idea of the Avantime was completely nuts, a two door coupe Minivan, a car like this was destined to fail from the get go. However I still think that the concept behind it makes a lot of sense, a very comfortable four seater with a lot of space and an airy and relaxing interior design. One of the most pure long distance cruisers ever made. And the Avantime does not make a single pretense to be anything other than a relaxing cocoon, a mistake modern Crossovers make and get derided for. It knows it isn't sporty or dynamic or even "active", and thats why I think the Avantime is so much more beloved than other crossover vehicles made since. But still, I have driven its bigger heavier 4-door half brother and I can support the claim that these, combined with the manual transmission and V6 engine, are far more fun to drive quickly than they have any right to.
@B0540654 жыл бұрын
Being the owner of a manual V6 Avantime... I couldn't agree more. It certainly is a relaxing car to drive, all windows down, sunroof open, on warm summer nights or sunny spring days. In those conditions you simply want to enjoy the scenery, enjoy the light, enjoy the fresh air. But hell yeah! Hit the throttle and enjoy the power and sound of the V6! It's definitely not a car to go unnoticed, though. Mine is not a boring colour either. As Clarkson put it, it's a kind of mushy pea green. I simply adore it.

A major mistake Renault made was the choice of only two doors. This meant that a very important part of the market was neglected: that of the chauffeur-driven executive cars. In short, M. le Président de la République would never have an Avantime for his official car.

Oh man, we've had a 2007 Gran Espace for what, 8 years? That was the most I've ever loved a car. We traveled across half the continent in it! Its amazing 3.0 turbodiesel was glorious on the Autobahn! And the comfort... I wouldn't trade it for any German limousine. The only thing that eventually killed it was its fuel economy. 18 liters of pricy Diesel fuel per 100 kilometers in the city. It was so painful, that we switched to a 2016 Nissan Leaf EV after that! That one couldn't ever dream of matching the Espace on the road, but Leaf is a miracle in the city - much better in every way.

The Avantime is possibly my favourite car ever. It is wonderfully innovative and emotive. And *DIFFERENT* It's the same reason why I'm thoroughly enjoying my Citroën C4 Cactus.

I liked mine, the engine sounded good and it was different. Not fantastic on fuel however but it was a 3.0 auto. A bit rickety in places, but certainly a nice cruiser. I changed the cam belt with engine in place, which is meant to be impossible, it was a very tight fit, but a lot cheaper than the alternative. A history of the fiat strada (another of my favourite cars), would be nice to do, as they have almost vanished from our roads.

I loved my Avantime as well - squeeked a bit - all that rubber and glass - and the electrical system was a bit iffy, but it broke my heart when I had to sell her. My hubby bought me a fiesta, but there is no car which could take Lola's place.

@@jozigirl7114 yep a great car and so different. It was the fuel costs for me, that made me move on. Maybe a 2.0 manual one would have been ok, but wouldn't of sounded so good. I wasn't so sure on the electrics, but it never packed up on me. May go back to one one day.

2003, we were in a Renault dealer in France to buy a Clio. Took a long look over an Avantime, so overwhelmed, astonished, intrigued !

I don't know what is it with french, but whenever french words come up people try to pronounce them in french, which they never do with other languages and it always grinds my gears.

I try to pronounce words the way the locals do, no matter what the language. It seems odd to me that English people don't call the German city of Cologne "Köln", which is its name. If everyone around the world called it the same thing is would make life simpler.

What a weird co-incidence!,yesterday I tested a 2005 3.0 dci Vel satis(it failed quite badly) and the owner who as it turned out also owns 3 espace and an R4 van was searching for a decent Aventime.

I always loved this car, it would be perfect if they built it with rear suicide doors

I'm glad they didn't - my dog loved having the back seat to himself, and I was never worried that he would fall out.

Seeing the Avantime prototype at the International Motor Show in Bucharest ‘99 was breathtaking. I was 13 years old. What followed, it’s history

As an Renault Scenic mk1 owner and having done my Apprenticeship at an Official Renault dealership this video really interests me...! This was a time when Renault was still actively trying out stuff, thinking of doing something unique to attract customers! I've driven the Avantime many times and also the Espace, which this car is based on. I simply love the concept of a large cruiser for maybe a family of four with some already larger children and loads of space. And now? They produce simple Plastic Trashpiles like the Captur and Twingo 3....

Thanks to my dad working in the automotive industry, I got to sit in an Avantime and also in a Val Satis when I was a boy. Wow these were interesting vehicles of the time.

Renault Avantime - one of my all time favourites. I'm not a big Renault fan, but they've had some bold designs and cars over time. I still have the original Twingo in my garage with just 58k km on the clock.

I've had one. And it was awesome and frustrating at the same time. It looked great (you got the looks on the streets), it drove great (i had 2.0 litre petrol) but it creaked and squeaked all the time from all sides (guess it was the fit and quality of materials used as well as lack of stiffness caused by missing of the B-pillar). But holidays in Croatia with my "iron" (that's what we called it because of the shape) was a wander. Aaaagh, the magic button turning it into near-convertible was such a wonder :D Unfortunatelly i crushed it, and repairing it was nearly impossible and absolutely insane in terms of economics because of shortage of spare parts. Now i own a vel satis and love it nearly as much, and some of it's features even more (like the front seats)

I was scolling through my facebook feed and as fan of the Avantime, I folow some pages. On one I saw a familiar headline... "The Renault Avantime Story", white font on black background! Yay! The logo on the corner! So, here I am. I loved the video, and it is honest to say that my admiration for your work is increasing with each video. Just one thing. Matra was already making extensive use of composite materials on Renault Espace panels, and it's sports cars before that.

The frugal engine’s code is hilarious, still a kid at heart. I am always drawn to bizarre cars so I have to admit I like the quirky look of it. The two doors are impractical... shame they didn’t at least do three doors like the Veloster, but I would take one right now.

I was a kid when I first read about this car. It’s such a cool looking futuristic car. I really liked the design, especially the tallness and the lack of a b-pillar. They could’ve brought this car out today and it wouldn’t have looked dated. I would buy one today if I can find one :)

"The reasoning behind the Avantime was that Espace owners had bought the car to haul their gaggle of children and stuff but in the late 1990s those kids had grown up but mom and dad still liked the idea of the Espace and wanted something similar..." I can only speak for my family but my dad was driving me and my siblings around in an Espace in the late 1990s and early 2000s... and a few years later after the kids had moved away from home, he wanted nothing to do with anything remotely resembling an Espace.
