Or the b-52's I love Dans wearing an American beauty grateful Dead t-shirt too.

The 'Mats were THEEE rock-and-roll band of my generation. There isn't a time that I play "Tim" when I don't cry a bit. I was at Paul's bachelor party in Ann Arbor. The Young Fresh Fellows played. A phenomenal night.

I saw the Replacements in Providence RI with Young Fresh Fellows. Had a conversation with Paul and Tommy backstage, Tommy thought I was someone else he didn’t like and it started an argument, it was funny trying to to prove I wasn’t who he thought I was. Paul recognizes me but Tommy wasn’t having it. Bobby thought it was funny. Everyone seemed pretty well primed, if you know what I mean. Young Fresh Fellows were great and the The Mats followed for a short but delirious set and asked the Young Fresh Fellows to come up and finish the set, which they did. Good times.

These guys were my neighbors. Literally. I remember when Tommy was 10. Anyhow, Curtiss A got a great write-up in Rolling Stone and I'm guessing that's how they got road work. Curt was the last show at the Peppermint Lounge in NYC. I gave them some of our old equipment that to start. Kids. That was pre-Slim. We recorded at the same studio with the same engineers. There have been benefit shows for Slim and an album I think. I hear he's doing good. He's well loved in Minneapolis. The Replacements? That's a long story. But, People do like Paul Westerberg.

Bob Mehr’s authorized biography of The Replacements is one of the greatest books I’ve ever read about a band. It’s called Trouble Boys. I saw the ‘Mats on their last tour, with Slim, and Uncle Tupelo opened. Heaven. Slim was a rock. I saw Soul Asylum many times, and after Karl, their bass player, passed away, Tommy Stinson filled in and I saw them play at Mohegan Sun, a casino, in the lounge for free. Tommy showed just as the show started and announced he had been “at the tables” until show time. You can take a Stinson out of Minneapolis, but a Stinson is always a Stinson.

Love The Replacements! Saw them four times, 3 near the end of their career and once on the reunion tour in 2013. Always entertaining. They opened for Tom Petty in 1989 and were drunk as skunks. We didn't get too many full songs but entertaining. Benmont Tench came out to play with them on a few songs and Paul's "Take it Benmont." during the solo cracked me up. The 1991 show at the Concert Hall is the one I shall always treasure. A fantastic full career retrospective by a sober (or so it seemed) band. Among my favourites are Somebody Take the Wheel, Unsatisfied, Alex Chilton, Can't Hardly Wait, I Don't Know and Kiss Me on the Bus, amongst many others. Dan did a good job of kind of defining the two phases of their career.

" Cauldron of unexpected",- absolutely. I'd rather be known for periodically blowing people's minds, than as the guy that was consistently " good". Every band needs some of both. I saw the 'Mats back in Hootenanny era, and was instantly sold. I got turned onto the 'Mats in '84, hearing "I Will Dare" on our local college station. They came to Seattle in '85 and played at Astor Park (a bar) exactly one month before my 21st birthday. I was pretty pissed I could not see them! It's funny Dan mentioned the bit about guitar players - I was "that guy!" In early '87 after hearing that Bob had been let go I was drunk AF, called Information in Minneapolis and asked for Paul Westerberg's number. I was going to tell him that I was the guitarist they needed to fill Bob's shoes. Whoever answered the phone that night (well, early morning MPLS time!) was probably really pissed and I sincerely apologize to that Paul, whoever you were. In retrospect, it was probably for the best because I got sober a couple years later and I'm not sure my life would have taken the same path if I had miraculously sweet-talked Paul into hiring me as the lead guitarist in The Replacements. My favorite 'Mats song varies with my mood, but it's usually "Left of the Dial." Usually.

Have you heard Left Lane Cruiser? They kind of fit this type of band and are on the Black Keys studio playing hillbilly bluegrass country rock. I think they are now 2 maybe now 3 members. They are from Fort Wayne Indiana. On another note I did forget that Unsatisfied was done by the replacements may favoriet and only song I know. I heard that song on the radio in the 1990's on an 1980's to now station probably now a 2000's to now station as it was changing to 1990's to now when living in Madison area, Middleton (Middleton that will be a suburb part of City of Madison still with own post station in 2024) in 2000 before I moved. The Album it is from Let It Be almost got a lawsuit from Beatles or EMI but then when the head of EMI or the remaining Beatles at the time heard the album and how good it was, the lawsuit was dropped, this makes me think it was the Beatles.
