I think mistakes were made by both Captain Sandy and Fraser. Captain Sandy should not be chastising a manager and dressing him down in front of his staff. I saw no mentoring. Fraser should not have bad talked his boss to his staff and should not have chosen to be their friend. But why did Captain Sandy decide to fire one of Fraser’s staff without speaking with him first or having him be there as the witness, and as an important learning experience? Perhaps because she knew of the friendship bond but that may have been even more reason to have him there and learn from the experience. Could you address this on the next Anchor Watch?

It's a little different on the show than in the real world. Sandy would have had to let production know she was firing someone before she actually did. Otherwise it may have been difficult to replace the crew member. As to why Fraser wasn't involved I agree that he should have been present however who knows how it actually went down.

I have no idea either why she called in Ross to witness and escort Alissa off the yacht. Its not as if Fraser as Chief Stew had never under minded her as a Captain in the past talking crap about her or letting the crew, he was leading do it. Its baffling to me. Its not as is the last crew member Camille she fired got off the yacht immediately either and left.

I think Capt Sandy was addressing him in front of his staff because they had participated in undermining her and she was trying to put them all on notice and because Fraser had not stopped them but also took part in it. That is probably why she didn't have Fraser witness and why she wanted her off immediately. To stop (and Fraser) from continuing the spread of this poison.

This show was chock full of people I enjoy! By the way, Josh, even though we're on opposing sides of the CS fence, I admire you sticking to your guns. I do have to ask if you think there's the teensiest possibility that it was a lighter and happier episode for Fraser because CS finally got off his back and even threw in a compliment or two? 😉

Great show I love your recaps. I thoroughly enjoy hearing your opinions and rationale as to why you feel the way you do. This season has been great some thing besides the usual, drinking, guests, etc. We saw the leadership.(chief stew.) struggle with being new and developing in this position. This was a unique and different twist with below deck. Gabby was a great guest I loved hearing her insights.

IMHO it's because Sandy didn't have Camille escorted off when she was fired. She had to go back down and tell Camille you have to leave and call another crew (Katie her roommate) to help her pack and get the hell off.

Question for Captain Sean... Going in as a temporary Captain for Lee did he feel as if former crew members of Captain Lee didn't feel the need to respect his style as a Captain? Captain Seans style like Sandys was much different than Lee's too. More hands on for the outings etc.

I try to be open to other methodologies of doing something. If crew come to me who have worked in amazing programs with Captains I respect, then the issue of respecting me isn't even an issue. If they come from a subpar program with a different ethos then hopefully they will see that I bring a different level of expectations. If they don't, well then there is that axe thing I talk about!

Last question for Captain Sean ... Tyler said Captains always favor the deck crew. Is that true? I can see that as if the deck team screws up the yacht could crash verses if Interior screws up the guests don't have towels or turkey club sandwiches.

I kinda thought that but I keep seeing and especially this last few episodes of Below Deck several crew members having feet issues needing medical attention as well as some stepping in glass. It seriously seems like a liability issue . But the medics do show up for them . However let’s not leave out Tony his foot and the garlic remedy😅

Question for Captain Sean. Is there a standard for some crew to have Emergency Life Saving training on vessels? Are there AED devices etc. Training to keep guests and crew alive while waiting on EMS to get to them?

In compliance with the STCW (Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping) all crew must have basic first, aid fire and life saving training.

Curious to know if any yachts are handicapped accessible. A yacht would be such a relaxing trip with a chance to have chef prepared meals. Thanks.

That is an excellent question. There are some owners who are handicapped or have family who are. Those vessels much like certain vehicles, have been modified to accommodate handicapped individuals. I am always sensitive to that as my uncle was on crutches his entire life due to polio.

People seem to forget Captain Sandy didn’t hire the folks and when she came a part she immediately hit an issue with Camille. That can make someone doubt how a department is being run. Then let’s be honest, Fraser did side mouth the captain in front of his team which is a no-no.

I can understand capt Sandy’s frustration with Fraser. She tried to tell the stew team she can hear their complaints when below deck. Instead of setting an example by listening to her direction responding, “Yes, Captain”, Fraser starts mouthing back, ala Alissa. That’s why Alissa thinks this is acceptable behavior. Capt Sandy tried to complete her thought and kept getting interrupted. That’s when she lost it and told them to stop talking. Maybe she should instead have told them to be quiet and listen. A ship is not a democracy. The captain has the final word for safety reasons. Insubordination is a huge deal because in an emergency, insubordinate staff can’t be trusted to follow orders. Alissa was still mouthy getting off the boat. She absolutely needed to go.

So far we havent seen him on deck at all. Did you miss the episode after Camille was fired and Tyler came on to replace her? You do understand Tyler hasn't been there from the start right?

Season started with Fraser CS Alissa 2nd Stew Hayley Jr Stew and Camille Jr stew part time and also deck team? Now he has Tyler full-time too. Fraser first thoughts as a leader should have been Camille/ Tyler is in charge of taking out gallies garbage as they are also part of the deck team. Don't call deck team because we have Camille/Tyler who is split. Thats exactly what Fraser should have put both in charge of too. Taking out the garbage and making sure the decks team towels were washed etc. Making sure glasses, dishes etc. were cleared off an washed from the sundeck The very first charter the bathroom up on the sundeck was dirty and had no soap and towels. Thats what Camille should have been put in charge of. Same with Tyler now.

@@shellytarbet3677 they were both hired as deck stews. Camille couldn’t handle it so they just used her on interior. Tyler was then hired as a deck stew. Being one down on the interior he’s primarily been used as just a stew but he’s technically a deck stew.

I still think captain sandy is brilliant and knows what shes doing with people. She gets a hard time. People need to get over the hannah thing. I think captain sandy did the right thing with her. I think half the problem is people keep bringing up her micro managing. She only does if they need it

Sandy created the problem with interior staff, she spoke to Camille nicely but firmly but she was dismissive and impatient with Alyssa who was dealing with a hostile work environment. Sandy does play favourites with the deck team and not just Alyssa noticed. Let’s be honest this was colourism, Alyssa was held to a different standard than Camille.

I totally agree. I’m honestly struggling with the way Bravo fans are coming at Alissa and completely excusing Camille’s behavior. It feels like colorism because black women are scrutinized so heavily. It’s weighing on me and I can’t continue this season. Bravo is not a safe space for us.

I liked Alyssa but she gave it to Captain Sandy to fire her when she continues the disrespect by her Captain response. Sandy did nothing with the more than once push back. Sandy wasn’t going to fire her with the talking back until the response when she was speaking to her about how she wa talking to her on the deck

I agree love or hate Captain Sandy put aside Alissas goal seemed to be to disrespect her boss as much as possible. Folks crying foal because she hadnt been given warning didn't pay attention after the blow up with Camille. Sandy warned both of them and Fraser. After she (accidently called her Sandy not!!!) she went down and bragged to Hayley saying Sandy would have to try harder to make her feel insecure.

Sandy's micromanagement approach comes years of battling her way to the top. She doesn't like surprises, and I understand she's not there to make friends, but to be a captain who models correct seamanship.
