Katie for such a young person you definitely are an old soul, I think that's great , that is why I had my daughter send those pictures to you. PS. You are besides me the only person who has all the pictures I have taken of them.. I love sharing with someone who appreciates those days. I also have on real to real the whole ELVIS concert recorded live by a friend at the Nassau colosseum unfortunately I no longer have a real to real player.. Good job young lady. The cool thing about that Cruisin' compilation, it's part of a series of records covering the years 1955-1970. Each cover progressively tells a story about the same characters as they age each year, the artwork reflecting how the social world around them changes too!

Katie: You have to check out American Graffiti. It's probably my second-favorite movie (after Planet of the Apes, of course). Great film, with a stellar cast of young actors, many of them household names now. It shines a different light on George Lucas as a director and makes one wonder what his career would have been like if not for the massive success of Star Wars four years later. If a person only wanted one collection of 50's and early 60's rock and roll, they could do a heck of a lot worse than that soundtrack. I had the opportunity to visit the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock five or six years ago. It was a much smaller place than I was anticipating, but there were some wonderful memorabilia. And one morbid piece: the glasses that Buddy was allegedly wearing when his plane crashed. I didn't need to see that, but thanks guys. I wanted to get over to Clovis, NM as well to see the Norman Petty studios, but didn't have the time. Beatles-related: There's a great 2-cd collection that Jasmine Records in the UK released called "without the beatles". It's 50 tracks of the original songs that the Beatles covered on their records and the BBC sessions. Worth picking up if you ever see it. There's a wealth of music from the 1960s beyond the Beatles so I strongly encourage you to explore more of it. I'm a child of the 90s, but the bulk of my music collection is centered around the 1960s. We will likely never see another decade of music that produced the sheer volume of talent across different genres of music that the 1960s gave us. Take it easy.
@katiegl
@katiegl Жыл бұрын
Wow, thank you for such an awesome comment! I’ll definitely heed your advice on all accounts, because you’re exactly right-I do need to see American Graffiti, those Beatles CDs seem really neat, and I do need to delve deeper into the 1960s music! I do actually listen to 60s music on the radio, so I do know quite a bit of the music-I just don’t know a lot about any one particular band or artist. But I’d like to! :-) Also, your trip to the Buddy Holly Center sounds very interesting! I’m with you, though-it would have been so sad to have seen his glasses. It’s always bothered me that he died the way he did, bless him. :-( Have a great weekend, my friend!

Hi, thanks for sharing some more of your collection with us, i always enjoy your videos. It`s funny that when your mum told you Paul McCartney was a Beatle you said you probably wouldn`t like his music and now you`re a big Beatles -McCartney fan. Can you remember the first time you actually heard or saw the Beatles and that sparked your interest in them ? You mention you play the piano. Have you ever heard Erik Satie`s compositions Gymnopedie and Gnossienne ? Have you ever played them, what do you think of them ? Personally i think they are two of the most beautiful pieces of piano music i`ve ever heard. I would be interested to hear what a piano player such as yourself thinks of those pieces of music and the various versions of them. Thanks from England.
