Just grabbed one of these today based on your videos. I am *shocked* about how very good my example is. It is easily the quality of my el-cheapo Schrade Divergent, which was three times the cost and is AUS-8, not D2. Yeah, the edge on the DropOut was basically that of a butter knife out of the package, but in all honesty I'm an old guy and I have no expectations of a sharp factory edge after a few decades of messing with cheap knives. Since this will be a beater work knife used on various edge-destroying materials, I just threw it on the accusharp and after a few passes to set the angle(And scrape the blade coating off) it sharpened up nicely. What a clean, spiffy action for $10. The construction equipment orange handle color is a bit extra but I can live with it.

The two I've checked out were plenty sharp out of the box but this isn't the first time a dull factory edge has been mentioned. Gotta love OT's quality control.

This is a great value knife. The only two complaints I have about the knife are the wobble in the blade and the lack of sharpness out of the package. My knife has good cutting ability due to the hollow grind, but is pretty dull. Tested it on paperboard, newspaper, envelope paper, magazine paper, plastic Ramen bag, and potato chip bag.

I bought a few of these when they had restocked them online. They had to fulfil my order from two different locations and now seem to be sold out again. I have been using one heavily for several days now mostly to cut cardboard, tape and rope. I usually use a Buck 110 because all these things dull most blades fast and the Buck I can resharpen in under a minute. After probably cutting through 500 pieces of cardboard this little knife still doesn't need sharpened. I have to say I'm kinda impressed. I've had other budget D2 knives that cost 5x this much and haven't done as well. The blade is definitely slicey and holds an edge exceptionally well. Build feels solid and the mechanism on mine is smooth and snappy. The centering on mine is also near perfect. The one visible defect on the knife is that one scale is burnt orange and one is blaze orange. They can apparently be dyed easily with RIT dye but for my purposes its a work knife so I could care less if its kinda ugly. I'm not really sure what the handle is made of as they just say injection molded and I have no idea how that will hold up and I have no idea the quality of the mechanism or how it will do over time. It's a really nice semi disposable work knife and is the best value I have seen. If Walmart can pull this off for $10 I would imagine for $15 they can slap micarta handles on them and work on the durability of the mechanism if it needs that. Benchmade might need to rethink their astronomical prices soon.

I got four of these. All good but one has an ever so slight uneven grind on the top edge as you showed, but nowhere near that bad. I've been carrying that one for two weeks and it does pretty damn good with what I have thrown at it so far. Still sharp as it was out of the package. Been cutting paper, cardboard, opening boxes, blister packages, heavy plastic bags with the twine reinforcement, string, small rope, cut up old t-shirts for rags, and sharpened a few pencils. I even cut through a soda can just to see how well it would do. It was like cutting butter in death valley in August at high noon. I may have missed a few things it has been used on so far.

Mine works great with normal use but the lock bar gets stuck and fails to engage after being exposed to vibrations and after attempting to adjust the pivot. Oiling the lock bar area and moving it for about 10 minutes two times over freed it up again. Its just a little rough. Fortunately the spring is strong. If the lock bar fails to engage, its actually quite dangerous especially with a ball bearing pivot. The blade swings closed very quickly when you dont expect it. I love this knife but wouldnt hand it to a lot of people unless i opened it for them.

Its not going to be my edc just because i have much better ones, but its a decent fidget and will probably find a long term place in my edc bag as a back up. I don't really mess with clones like that, the Bugout clones are so prevalent that everyone else under the sun has covered them. I feel like the hype is warranted on this one. The $5 axis locks from the last couple of holidays were just fun to play with.

You will just be lucky to even get one much less return it. They will give you a refund of your $9.97 and call it good. Sold out Everywhere

It's not a seasonal item at least. More should be showing up soon, and more available once the hype dies down a bit.
It's a GEM...that's Good Enough Made not Benchmade. Wait... It's a Hug out...that's a homage Bugout... I'll be here all night.

Everybody buying many of these in one go is very inconsiderate. They're now basically sold out everywhere. Thanks for your selfishness.

I didn't do it. I grabbed a couple for the channel but that was it.

Knife snobbery is really starting to get under my skin. This thing is $10. The review should consist of telling us it held an edge. It opens and closes smoothly. The end end. All this other stuff about QC and blade warp and cosmetic issues and the centering especially being pointless are just idiotic comments to make on a $10 knife. Would you do this kind of a review on a gas station knife? Of course not. This is an awesome knife that somebody who is trying to get geared up for a quick camping trip would be real happy to have. Even as an EDC, as long as it holds up to wear and tear over time, it's great. End of story.

I have to mention it because it's important to a lot of people looking at it and I would not be doing a very good job if I didn't pass that information along.

So I've had a few Ozark trails. Pretty much all where very sharp and easy to sharpen. They are cheap and cheaply made steel quality isn't good. Save your pennies and get a better budget knife

I'll be honest the D2 on this thing has held up to some ROUGH treatment. I've seen one get snapped intentionally to check out the grain structure and it look pretty damn good. Nice gray powder. There isn't anything that's gonna beat this at $10, but a Civivi or something in the $30 range IS gonna feel a lot nicer in the hand.

@knivesiguess I believe you but the heat treat is inconsistent

I can't speak to that at the moment, the two I tested did fantastic.
