The Resurrection, one might say, is the Good News of the Gospel.
And, when the Sadducees approached Jesus about marriage in the resurrection, attempting to trip him up, Jesus makes some pretty bold assertions, almost as if he is speaking with authority as one who knows or has been to the locale where those who are resurrected will arrive.
Listen and consider to how Jesus speaks of the resurrection of the body, life after death, and marriage in the life to come in this video clip with Dr. Brant Pitre.
To learn more about this passage where Jesus' encounters the Sadducees in the Gospel over the question of the resurrection, marriage in the after life, and the connection between it, the Responsorial Psalm, and the Old Testament reading for this Sunday's Mass, subscribe today to The Mass Readings Explained:

@@randycouch2769 his bridegroom is the church or better yet he laid down his life for the church for any believer to be able to enter and be baptized and be loved by Christ because Christ's love is forever. Christ in his absolute perfect Love gave his life and in 3 days he rebuilt the temple and in this temple his people worship him so in a way Christ has married all of us who believe in him. Marriage in spirit of spirit and not by flesh because the flesh turns to dust but Christ loves us so much he takes our Spirit to his Father who purifies us with the blood of Christ and thus our sins are washed away and only then do we have the right to see the Father through Christ who gave his life in return so that you may enter if you are willing to believe and sacrifice for your brothers and sisters. If you deny your Father then you have denied his Son who loved you till the last drop of blood was paid in return that you may believe in Christ.

You're probably my favorite Catholic theologian. You're explanations are so clear, logical and thorough. I'm sure you already know this but just remember Elijah went up to heaven body and soul. Near the end of the video as you are explaining that all the saints and prophets bodies have been separated from their soul and are awaiting for the resurrection when their bodies and souls will come together again, you forgot to mention that Elijah is the one exception.

Question: Does the Church distinguish between one's soul and one's spirit? I've heard attempts to distinguish them but don't get it. Answer: While we can make distinctions between “soul” and “spirit” as St. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, they are fundamentally the same in man (CCC 367). That is, as the Church teaches, the “soul signifies the spiritual principle of man. . . . The human body is human precisely because it is animated by a spiritual soul” (CCC 363-364). A soul, on its most basic level, is the “life principle” or “animating principle” of a body. In other words, all living bodies have a soul. If they did not have souls, they would not be alive. While plants, animals, and anything living contains a soul, the human soul is unique. In man, the soul has not only vegetative powers (as plants have) and sensitive powers (as animals have) but also rational powers, which makes it akin to pure spirits in that sense. It is this rational power that separates us from other living beings in this world. Consequently, we say that a human is unique among living beings because a human is a created, immortal spirit united to and animating a body. In other words, man is the only bodily being whose soul is a spirit (animals are not spiritual), and the only spirit which is a soul (angels do not have a body and therefore no soul). Only in humans do we find both soul and spirit. Indeed, man is a union or composite of body and soul. As Vatican II reminds us, “the human person, though made of body and soul, is a unity. In itself, in its very bodily condition, it synthesizes the elements of the material world, which through it are thus brought to their highest perfection” (Gaudium et Spes 14) “Soul” when distinguished from “spirit” means that which gives life to a body. “Spirit” when contrasted with “soul” simply means those aspects of human life and activity that transcend our bodily limitations and so open the soul toward the supernatural life of grace. As the Church adds, “‘Spirit’ signifies that from creation man is ordered to a supernatural end and that his soul can be raised beyond all it deserves to communion with God” (no. 367). Human nature has all of these aspects essentially, and ultimately even the body will share in the life of the spirit in the resurrection of the dead.

I listened to your presentation. What Jesus said about the age to come is not the new heaven and the new earth written in the book of Revelation but the millennium coming up. Christ talked about this in Luke 20:35, of those who would be considered worthy to take part in the age to come and would be resurrected immortal. I have a question for you, you said that those who died their spirits or how you said it , souls would be reunited with their bodies, what about going to heaven or hell you Catholics believe people go after death??

*Jesus Christ's understanding of Resurrection* Resurrection is a very big subject but applies chiefly to the resurrection on the 3rd day, when the children of God will be enveloped in a new and glorified body, (a body which will resemble the body of the one they had in the prime of their lives during the 1st day which is today), these resurrections into a glorified body can be witnessed by the children of God, as they are angelic witnesses and Christ's in their own right from the 2nd day. The reign of these Christ's is up to a thousand years, they also witness the children of men as well as angels as they transition in the 1st day to the 2nd and 3rd days. We also have an explanation of resurrection and its counterpart which is reincarnation from Our Lord when He discussed with Nicodemus the fact that there were two dichotomies regarding salvation, the physical return of a person unfit for the Kingdom of God and the spiritual exit of a person who is fit for it. Our lord consolidates this teaching when He spoke to the 'Rich young Ruler' stating his salvation was assured because of his following the law of Moses but this salvation was secondary as it involved merely reincarnation So one is locked into the 1st day, (Hodie ), and the other released from matter into the 'Kingdom of God' as an angelic child, to begin the 2nd day The fact that this realm has existed to our knowledge for thousands of years suggests that no one is lost and are in familial groups. Further we can set as a biblical fact that the first millennial people who followed Our Lord are arisen bodily in their 3rd day, and that the Old Testament people who followed the Law of Moses are as well, as recorded in Exodus 20:6. The teaching of Our Lord is not about reincarnation but how to overcome reincarnation yet he does not deny reincarnation. Consider the teaching of the 'sermon on the mount' when He said "The meek shall inherit the earth" this is a clear reference to returning to another body ( earth or matter) after one life has been spent, and contrasts with the terms required for one to "enter into the Kingdom of God" who has the burden of his own cross. Therefore the meek can inherit only material life, (because of their disposition) but they may not enter the Kingdom of God, because it requires great and determined faith, We must also consider St John the Baptist and his role as Elijah redivivus and in so doing call to mind the words used by Jesus to the Jews of His day, "where I am going you cannot come" because those Jews would only achieve reincarnation but Jesus Christ is Lord of the resurrection so His own resurrection on the 3rd day was witnessed on the 1st day and is still being witnessed on this Ist day. *Yet we must keep in mind the instant generosity by which the Good Thief was accepted into Paradise* John 8:21 Again he said to them, "I go away, and you will seek me and die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come." Hebrews 6:6-8 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, again he sets a certain day, "Today," saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, "Today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later of another day. Luke 20; 34-36 Luke 20;34-36 34 And Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage; 35 but those who are *accounted worthy* [meaning judged] to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, 36 *for they cannot die any more* because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

5:27 *The Good news is not just the resurrection* but that we through Christ no longer have to keep being reborn into this 1st day and can become the children of God in the 2nd day from where the preparation of our physical resurrection will be demonstrated by our older brothers in Christ because they have had 1000 years in that aeon of the 2nd day and we will witness their physical resurrections in an orderly procession we will understand Jesus Christ's words that the *Kingdom of God is in you and all around you* Christ has come as He said *And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power* Mark 9:1. Because He has come to those whom He has Judged that is *the living* only they can give this testimony but man cannot recieve it *John 3:9 Nicode′mus said to him, “How can this be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand this? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen; but you do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things* People are confused about this work of physical redemption thinking it is static but it is not static it is dynamic, those that died in Christ (that have become children of God) a 1000 years ago are almost ready to arise in a glorified body and ascend to a higher heaven. Because only those judged while they were alive can comprehend this many people have fallen into myths and denial but those judged after death cannot tell you that the saints whose died at Jesus first coming have already arisen and ascended to a higher heaven.

✝ ✝ ✝ They are like the angels (equal to the angels) and are children of the resurrection: they are immortal and have power as the wind personified to appear and to disappear at will (as in John 3:8), they are spirit and yet they have bodies. This supports my interpretation of John 3:1-16. I believe that Jesus was speaking of the water of life, living water, as in John 4 and Revelation 21-22. And I also believe that He was including himself in the explanation of the requirement that all must be born anew from above, born of living water and the Spirit of the Living God, in order to enter into the eternal realm of the righteous, the Kingdom of the Living God. Though Nicodemus did not understand, Jesus was also speaking of His own resurrection. Yet He was not saying that death was another requirement, as if Death were a coredeemer, for He said to Martha (John 11:26) that whosoever liveth and truly believeth in Him shall never die. Thus Jesus was implying that He personified the water of life and the resurrection unto eternal life. This means that to be born of water and the Spirit is to be as He was when resurrected - clothed in a glorified spiritual body, with the ability to appear and to disappear at will, like the angels of Heaven. And so I say that to be born anew from above, born of the water and the Spirit of life, is to be one immaculately transfigured. ✝ ✝ ✝

This question was put to Paul at 1 Cor 15:35 "What kind of bodies will they have?" Paul, using the illustration of a seed that dies in the ground to make way for a beautiful plant, going on to explain that we will have an entirely "new body, a spiritual one" ( verse 38). Thus our human body was made for life on earth, in heavan we will have a Spiritual body, because heavan is a SPIRITUAL, not physical realm. Paul confirms this "Flesh and blood cannot inherit God's Kingdom" ( verse 50) Those who teach that our human bodies will come back & go to heavan are WRONG! Jesus gave his human body as a sacrifice for all, he was "put to death in flesh made alive in spiriit" ( 1 Peter 3:18)

'Bodily resurrection' originates not with Christianity but with GREEK MYTHOLOGY ( like a number of both catholic & protestant teachings) Asciepius,Alcmene,Castor & heracules were beived to have experienced a bodily resurrection. All in Greek mythology. Even Peter stated Jesus was "Put to death in the flesh, made alive in the Spirit" ( 1 Peter 3:18 ) Paul said the saints will CHANGE from their 'mortal' bodies to 'immortal, spiritual bodies' ( 1 Cor 15:39,40)

Jacob had recieved a new name therefore he was *adopted* as a Son of God called *Israel* then we fast forward to Isaiah 49:3 *Your are my son Israel in whom I will be glorified* and ask yourself what you would have said if jesus had asked you *Who do you say that I am* I myself see no problem in acclaiming Jesus to be *Israel* and that means He was a *Son of God* before he came into the world as jesus of Nazareth this does not detract from the resurrection realization that *God the Son has become man in Jesus Christ*

There is no immortality of the soul in New Testament doctrine. 1 Corinthians 15:16-23 KJVS [16] For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: [17] And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. [18] Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. [19] If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. [20] But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. [21] For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. [22] For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. [23] But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. Dead is dead. The immortality of the soul is present in many pagan theologies. Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman and many others. But not in sound Christian doctrine,

I am confused. Adam and Eve were married before the fall. To what end or purpose was the first marriage? What God had joined together, let no man put asunder. Second, the definition of the nature of Angels used was extra-biblical and defined in our theology centurues later. How can we use that definition of the substance of angels to understand the context of this scripture? I think it is fallacious. I believe the ultimate response was to prove the resurrection, it wasn't Jesus's treatise on marriage. The hard question is this, will Adam and Eve be husband and wife in the resurrection? If not, then the edenic state wouldn't be restored.

( And he can rest that Spirit on any man he chooses ) 1Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God ( Jehovah ) and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men - the testimony given in its proper time! ( Son of man, born from the seed of man ) Isaiah 51:12-13 the sons of men, who are but grass, that you forget the Lord ( Jehovah ) your Maker. WORSHIP ONE GOD JEHOVAH

The NT was written in Greek, and the word jehovah was never used. The two Greek words always used for God in the NT are Theos or Kyrios, both being used to refer to Christ. In the Hebrew Bible, God is YHWH but never pronounced, in which case they usually used Adonai (my Lord). Af for the resurrection of the body that's described very clearly in 1 Cor 15 and in Mt 10:28 " be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and BODY in hell" And then Rev 7:9 there are multitudes of people of all nations, with hands and all the rest and even clothes.

With what kind of body will they come? HOW FOOLISH! @@edwardgilmore1563" Spirit body" ? Not in Scripture, it's your addition. Twisting Scriptures like all true heretics since the beginning of Christianity. Jeovah? not in Hebrew, not in Greek, not in the first latin bible of Pope Damasus Ad382, later translated by St Jerome from greek to latin.

@@edwardgilmore1563 You can quote all verses you want. Trouble is your interpretation is a man-made invention of the 19th century. Your religion stands in the company of those who came before, since the beginning of christianity (marcionists, docetists, montanists, gnostics, arians, etc.etc.) all appealing to Scriptures, twisting their meaning. If you're in good faith, before you preach, study the true Apostolic faith, starting with the disciples of the twelve Apostles from AD80 year ca and onwards www.amazon.com/Faith-Early-Fathers-Three-Set/dp/0814610250/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=jurgen+fathers+church&qid=1573046748&sr=8-1 If you're not in good faith, nothing I can do for you.

Why do these people CONTINUE TO LIE. It is well known that NO ONE knows who wrote the gospels, they are anonymous and as such are NOT TO BE TRUSTED. It is most l8kely that the gospels were written by ROMAN SCRIBES 7NDER ORDERS FROM CONSTANTINE, SEVERAL HUNDRED YEARS AFTER THE EVENTS THEY DESCRIBE. So the gospels are about as TRUSTWORTHY AS THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER. Whenever you hear the words “Jesus said” what follows IS A LIE. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT JESUS SAID.
