The Retro Squad - Alton Towers 2021

Alton Towers have launched The Retro Squad in 2021 with the addition of 3 temporary rides throughout the theme park! Mixtape, Roller Disco and Funk’n’Fly are three 80's themed fun fair rides that guests can enjoy at the theme park during the 2021 season. I genuinely stand correct (pardon The Smiler pun) these are way better than i expected, i was very anti-flat ride before these 3 came along, mixtape is incredibly fun and I'd love to see it as a permanent fixture, funk n fly was fun enough for what it did, Roller Disco however should probably had been a dodgems like previously rumored as waltzers are very similar to Maraueders Mayhem!

I can understand why some people are a bit upset by this, but I kind of feel this is actually a good thing. Parks can rent rides, set them up and see what people like. Then they can buy a permanent one if there's a stand out.

Not many people know that the waltzer is brand new delivered to John Collins junior and its been sat in his yard packed up since the first lockdown. And John Collins junior is a good friend of mine not seen him for a while though 💨💨💨👌🏼👍

I had a great time! There was a new HUSS booster there for 2021(I think they call it that)but I didn’t go on it because someone projectile vomited in the exit. I went on the HUSS breakdance and that is my new favourite ride there! I also went on Crash Test, Miami surf, Wave swinger, the pirate ship, and the Chance Rides twister, that has had some re-branding and now has super heroes painted os the back of the seats. In my opinion, Ocean Beach Pleasure Park is the best amusement park in the north east! 😁

I can see a lot of people missing these attractions when they get removed, yep, there temporary. Not because of the rides there selves but because of the fun, usually walk on experience they provide. Btw that music is basically on Nemesis music tier for me, I hum it anywhere I go, it's just soooo catchy!

Bit controversial but my favourite is Funk and Fly, it's in one of the best areas of the park and I personally think it fits in quite well near the blade, plus it's just so eye catching, it's probably just as good offride as it is to be on it!

For me I love the branding and mountain king 80s remix audio but in terms of the rides themselves Mixtape is fantastic but gets big queues. Roller Disco is a bit too gentle and I’m sure I done it before at Stoke on Trent Winter Wonderland and Funk n Fly don’t get me started, I don’t even fit because of the stupid restraint Design it’s pathetic for those with chunky legs but I heard from others that it’s intense and feels like an enterprise the best thing about all three rides is the branding and theme music

I hope they see this as a need for more flat rides rather than we can get away with putting mediocre fair ground rides in and pleasing the crowd's. At the end of the day they are generic fair ground rides, not theme park rides imo.

The aero plane one could look so cool galactica themed, it’s even got the same shape as the logo. The reason I probably won’t go on these is because I’ve gone on them many times before at fairgrounds and they are good but not for Alton towers I think. Retheam them and they could look cool permanently, also I hate roller disco in the dark forest it just looks so weird 😂

Updates I have now been on funk n fly after the staff pushed very hard on the lap bar It’s in the middle of mixtape and roller disco. Mixtape is still better and roller disco is too boring plus roller disco is a fresh ride from the factory so I was a new waltzer cred

@@danielledewitt1 Fair rides...and many park rides too, come to that...often have two names - a generic name for the model, but also an individual name for that particular instance of it. So, in this case, “Funk’n’Fly” is the individual name given by the owner (or, in this case, by Alton Towers), whereas Super Trooper is the model name, as used by the manufacturer (PWS Rides). Super Troopers differ from the more common Paratrooper rides, in that they have that centre column that the frame moves up and down on. They’re obviously closely related to each other, though.

Love the temporary flat rides but the Roller Disco "Waltzer" needs to have a table walker (someone spinning the cars) or two to really get the fun of this ride.
