Great review, and good solution to work around it's couple flaws! I think I would opt to stretch the 16X9 as well to read text easier. I wonder if Retroid was contacted they could fix the HDMI output aspect ratios to natively fit 16X9 screens for PSP and newer consoles.

Hi there! Do you have a solution for two screen consoles like DS or 3DS? I'm thinking if it's possible to use hdmi display out on vertically oriented monitors or using the RP2S's screen as the 2nd screen with touch while using hdmi out as the 1st screen.

@@breezypbreezy not possible on my monitor, maybe possible on other monitors to display vertically. My retroid only displays horizontally on my monitor and there's nothing in the settings of my monitor or on retroid's to rotate the display.

Hey, I have the problem that I get pillarboxing on my crt tv when playing 4:3 games even though the games were made for such a screen. Woud you have a solution for me?

Hey there! Unfortunately because the forced Android 4:3 is coming through, hdmi signal output will be pillarboxed 16:9 ☹. I'd think that's why even if you adapted the hdmi output to composite to a CRT. You will still have pillarboxing if not both pillarboxing and some letterboxing aswell. There's some excellent solutions to this for Windows but not any good ones for Android I think. If your CRT has Overscan that you can tweak, you can try to counter the black bars, but if you have both pillar and letterboxing, then you might hit a wall in how much zoom or overscan you can apply, or you might be able to fill the screen but by then the picture might really distorted. You could probably Capture your device to your PC and use Windows software for outputing to CRT to fix the scaling. But I feel like if you're at the point of outputting to your CRT from PC... Then it'd just be easier to emulate on PC and display to your CRT from there. Display, on-board and external, is the only problem I have with the Retroid Pocket 2s. Things like the problem you're having, would be easier to deal with converting... if when connected to an external display, it would correctly adapt to the external display OR if there was an accessible way to change the resolution&aspect ratio on a system level. I will make an edit to this video if not post another 1 if Retroid puts out an update for this device with display fixes

@@NicMusubi Hey, thanks for your detailed reply! I'm mostly playing games that were made with the 4:3 aspect ratio in mind, so the on-board display is on point for me, but it's still somewhat vexing to see external doesn't works as it should...

Hi. Have you had any experience playing with RG405V? If yes, which one do you prefer? RG405V or RP2S?

No unfortunately I never got to try using an RG405v so I can't say which feels better in the hand. But I opted to get the RP2s because I prefer the more easily portable size. The RP2s is just that much easier to take anywhere all the time, but the RG405v can play more tougher to run titles and has insane battery life. The RG405v would probably feel like the best choice on a plane for frequent flyers maybe.

I believe there are settings somewhere under theatre mode that let you change the hdmi aspect ratio

Where can I find the Theatre Mode? Is it in RetroArch? Bc unless it's an actual Android Setting that makes Android itself to output in 16:9, I don't think that the RetroArch scaling options will fix the hdmi output to properly fullscreen on an external 16:9 display
