Bruce Brimacombe explores the history of the electric car, his vision of the electric car market, and the facinating possibilities for a future infrastructure to support electric cars. With the assurance of reliable interstate charging stations, drivers will be moved to purchase electric vehicles.
Mr. Brimacombe is a visionary with a penchant for identifying emerging market opportunities, setting innovative business trends, and successfully leading young companies to profit. He began his career in 1983 as a securities trader specializing in IPOs and small business capitalization. In 1999, he launched an Internet computer company, which exceeded $16 million in sales in its first year. In 2002, Mr. Brimacombe started Phoenix metro area's leading wireless ISP company. At that point, he foresaw the market leading up to electric vehicles (EVs).

Tesla is inspiring many other automakers. Today even Chevy with the BOLT and others are joining the 200+ range under $30K car. It keeps getting better.

We have two Chevrolet Volts, our next cars will be fully electric powered solar panels

Not really. Electric Vehicles are 3x more energy efficient than fossil cars. The amount of solar it takes to charge and EV is much less than the amount needed to power a home. Most people with all three power their homes and their driving from a typical sized solar installation. P.S. It's all free after the solar payback time of about seven years: free home energy, free driving energy. Forever. (Nobody really knows how long solar panels last because they essentially never wear out. It's at least 50 years.)

THIS GUY IS WRONG! The laserdisc was around for over 2 decades. It lasted only second to videotape. Go online and look. I own and personally watched the sale of laserdiscs for years after I go a player.

I think I get what he is trying to say about the folly of having different charging systems. Let's have a summit of all the manufacturers and have them come up with a common system. I would also like to see someone build a cheap simple EV that will let the common peasant afford an EV. I am sick of every new project of a high-end luxury EV that can do 0-100 in 0.02 seconds and has first class airline seats that is on autopilot. How about an EV for the city for 6 people that costs under $10,000 that can become an urban taxi. Climate Change is real, get serious.

I'd love to see that too, but realistically it's not going to happen while batteries cost more than $10k. How do we get the price of batteries down? Make them in vast quantities. How do we do that? Make a car that millions of people can afford, and can cover the cost of the battery.

1:12 I can get behind the message of this video, but the facts are completely incorrect. A simple google search will reveal that the first practical motor, (not car), wasn't developed until 1834 by American Thomas Davenport, shortly followed by EV's

Also, the range of any ICE is directly controlled by how much fuel you bring with you. Granted: it quickly becomes ridiculously inefficient the more fuel you bring. (I think it decreases similar to a natural log function.)

They're already dead. EVs will kill them eventually. The only question is how much damage fossil fuels can do until then.

electric cars wont solve the traffic problem... sure the air might be cleaner but the future still looks like an ever increasing jam. cities need to embrace bicycle infrastructure... electric bicycles need more promotion

Totally agree, but automated ride sharing services could definitely make a dent. Think automated ride sharing, or effectively a mini bus that picks you and a couple of people in your neighbourhood and takes them to similar destinations, at the cost of a large bus, with the convenience of a car plus a couple of minutes. You no longer need two cars, just the one that you use for non-commuting duties.
@LoanwordEggcorn
@LoanwordEggcorn 6 жыл бұрын
Actually autonomous cars cost about the same as normal cars, not as much as a bus. Autonomous car services will pick you up, drop you off, then go off to pick up the next passenger. They will be electric (since EVs cost about 1/3 as much to operate) and will charge themselves also. Autonomous car services will greatly reduce the need to own and park a car, especially in cities, and reduce traffic, since the same car can serve many people.

Loanword Eggcorn I meant at the cost of a bus trip, not the car costing like a bus. Sure, you could do lots of point to point trips, but with one person per vehicle that isn't going to solve the traffic problem, though it would improve parking in cities.

Yep, used to live in St Johns Wood and Maida Vale for a couple of years. I think a few major cities around the world are looking at car free, or at least car sparse, city centres. London has spoken about doing it around Oxford/Regent/Picadilly Circus, Oslo is doing it in their city centre, Melbourne in Australia is talking about it. I'm pretty sure there are others, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
