Comforting to know that Anubis was not portrayed as a normal villain, but a tragic antagonist with originally benevolent intentions, only to turn bitter at feeling betrayed by humanity. Am also glad that he was not destroyed by the Sentinels. Adoration unto Lord Anubis!

You can tell furries worked on this. Even back then they were all over the studios. That muzzle movement is properly articulated and natural, and he is not only built, but he flows smoothly. Perfectly proper anthropomorphization.

Why all the hate on Anubis? He was actually a hero of Egyptian mythology that helped resurrect Osiris and protect his tomb from set.

More over he was _guardian_ of the dead not of darkness. Gargoyles got it wrong too making Anubis god of the dead (actually Osiris) rather then guardian of the dead.

Agreeing with the many other comments. In the original myths, Anubis was the ruler of the land of the dead, who later stepped down, passing his position to Osiris and taking the post of Final Judge, and guardian of the places of the dead. If you want a truly evil god in Egyptian mythology, that would be Apophis, Lord of the Desert. Even Set's less evil than complicated.
