Leicester wins the league that year too!!! And Ted Lasso sweeps the Emmy Awards...... Ted Lasso has the Golden Touch
@bunpeishiratori58493 жыл бұрын
Yeah, at the time that was kind of a joke...that Leicester won the league being coached by Ted Lasso.
@wvu052 жыл бұрын
Actually, they won it the next year. What made it even funnier is that Spurs were they team they beat to win the League.

Love this! The show, Ted Lasso, is so good and so funny. I hope you guys get a chance to see it at some point. Brett Goldstein is brilliant as football player, Roy Kent. He’s my favorite character on the show.

Arlo White was doing sport stuff with the BBC, then he started out in the US as the play-by-play announcer for my Seattle Sounders in 2010, and he was so good there that NBC hired him on to do their national MLS and US national team games. After that, he moved over to their Premier League coverage. He's from Leicester and got to call the game that clinched the league for them, too, I think.
@wvu052 жыл бұрын
I was home sick from work that day, and watching Hazard nail the goal to tie the game and give the title to Leicester was a thing of beauty. I think they were _everyone's_ second-favorite team that year once it became obvious they had a chance.

Just binged the show this week. It really is as amazing as others say. As a football fan, some of the sports scenes feel a little slow and awkward but its not really about that. Its about the characters and there are an amazing amount of well developed, fun, interesting characters to love.

Chicago is built on a grid to the point that addresses reflect distances. Every 800 is exactly one mile. So like 800 N Halstead is exactly two miles from 2400 N Halstead.

The Chicago grid seems like sorcery to me. Almost 20 years in the city and it still boggles my mind when a friend can let me the cross streets when I give her an address. 😬

What I find remarkable is that they took a silly sketch with a "fish out of water" scenario, and turned it into a show with a ton of heart. The socc...excuse me, FOOTBALL, is more of a framing device for the events of the show, rather than the focus. It starts out borrowing most of the premise of the movie "Major League", and then takes it in unexpected directions.

The weekend matches for the Premiere League start well before our major weekend sports. Most NA football starts about 11 AM EST. The first soccer match around 8am EST. So soccer giver content to fill that early morning slot. The problem of course being that for the west coast those games are starting around 5 AM.

Ted Lasso is a strange show because of how charming it is, regardless if you like football or not. At least in USA its rare to have show that is so positive, witty and silly yet has some emotional depth as well. It plays off the usual stereotypes would expect but doesn't rely on them to carry the show. I would almost oddly compare it to Ned Flanders from The Simpsons coming to life.

EPL was already huge out here. And it got even bigger thanks to NBC's investment into full & exclusive broadcasting rights in the U.S. Football in general is so accessible out here nowadays, we basically consume the Football Content as easily as you Europeans (obviously I still can't watch my Bantams live cause who the hell wants to wake up early for League 2 Football??????). NBC did a "Fanfest" at the L.A Memorial Coliseum a couple months ago, and people were actually queuing up at 2 A.M PST- and the TV Broadcast of the event didn't start til 4 A.M. I watched it live and they packed the dam place in the dark, in the cold, in the RAIN!!!!!!! Yea, safe to say, Americans are very much into the EPL.
