III%ers tried the same thing at the BLM standoff, but people dismissed them as crazy gun owners. The thing is, most people in America are good people, wanting to protect people's rights, no matter if that oppression comes from government, or other crazed individuals. I dream of a day when those people hold a united voice, instead of stay in the shadows while the small percentage takes the news daily, with their fear.

Man, I remember my buddies dad was a chapter leader that ran his own Guardian Angel group in Modesto CA. I think I was 18-19 when I joined his chapter. We did walks all over town and little by little we became somewhat well known in the area. We started to get calls asking to come and protect parties, gatherings, birthdays etc. You name it, we did it. One day we get a call asking to protect a funeral for a teen who had been shot. (Believed to be gang related) Unfortunetly it was mistaken identity. It was one of the scariest time as a G.A. The funeral was held in East Oakland CA. We had no weapons, no nothing! Luckily we only had minor to no issues, but it could have easily gone south if the rival gang would have shown up. We risked our lives that night to keep the family safe. They are amazing. Mad respect to this organization. People ask why when there’s cops and here’s the benefits of them. 1.) No taxes, no cost (entirely free service) you can call them and request them to patrol your community. 2.) They are trained in citizens arrest and self defense. 3.) They are unarmed and pose no physical threat to the public. 4.) They help enhance law enforcement by increasing the amount of crimes reported for police to handle. 5.) They are essentially a free unarmed security service that anyone who feels unsafe can call. Police: - Costs money via taxes - Won’t patrol an area that you ask them to, they work under the command of their department not you. - They won’t watch over your neighborhood, they’ll likely be looking for an ordnance or infraction to enforce. + Good however to call after a crime is committed. If a crime isn’t committed, they won’t do anything.

I used to see them in San Diego. They’d be patrolling in the gaslamp. They were impressive. They had these surveillance strategies when they would reach a corner, positioning in ways to always be looking out for trouble to quash. Always had a heart for these guys. Always seemed Curtis was having to defend himself on talk tv back in the day. He really brought it to em. They got a lot of flack. Deep respect.

"law encforcement training" doesnt really seem to have much effect on the effectiveness of a cop from my experience. I wish the Guardian Angels were a worldwide thing. Unarmed civilians just trying to make the world a better place seems like a great addition to armed law encorcement (which we obviously still would want some of those guys around for the occasional violent criminal)

Around 20 years ago, I was the youngest member of the Guardian Angels (at the time). Something, I am to this day, very very proud of. I once met Curtis Sliwa in person at my local chapter (when he had his cast on, during that mess back in the day), and shortly afterwards was relieved of duty and no longer allowed to train or patrol due to my age. It was one of the most valuable experiences I had at such a young age, and regret nothing, nor hold any ill-will towards the Angels. I'm so thankful I was allowed to work with the highly trained teachers and leaders we had in our neighbourhood. Ex-military, martial arts experts. ALL volunteers for the greater good. They have helped us so much, our neighbourhoods, our city, yet so few people know of them. The neighbourhood our chapter was in was crime ridden, and very dangerous at the time. Now it is safe, and being part of this organization (even if just for a time), the current safety this neighbourhood enjoys is due directly because their hard work. Their vigilance, their patrols, and just simply the presence of someone who is willing to sacrifice themselves to perform the duties of a police officer, when one just isn't around. All the while doing so, with no weapon, and only martial arts training. I'm not a religious man, but God bless the Angels!

Back in the early 1980's I was a single woman living in Toronto. The Guardian Angels were setting up a Toronto chapter. While Curtis and Lisa were in Toronto they set up a series of Saturday morning free self-defense for women classes (they ran for maybe 5 Saturdays? I forget the exact number). They taught the classes themselves. I think sometimes it was just Lisa. It wasn't a large group of women, maybe 20 or so to start. Fortunately I never needed to use any of the moves they taught us...but I do remember a number of them. It was very kind of them to offer this free, not even asking for donations.

The Guardian Angel may be exactly what the city needs all over again. They certainly left a very strong impression on me growing up, both the good and bad. Heck, I remember alot of the Gen X'ers growing up as kids wanting so much to be like them and join em but also watched the more shadier shit they done as they became older. I kinda miss those kool-aid days. I wonder how the Guardian Angel would be different now though? Did they learn from the past? I mean, for all the good, I also remember the Guardian Angels gradually becoming corrupted themselves, some I remember were secretly drug dealers themselves as well as involved in other serious criminal activities. Some of those guys actually used the garb of GA, and ended up exploiting that for their own personal gain. Ahem, for their own personal gain...They became the lookout and personal protectors of criminals around the corners, we even new some that grew up together who still had their old gang affiliations while seemingly appearing to be a part of G.A to appear to help prevent petty crime yet it was just a distraction for the public when in reality they let other crime slide, ESPECIALLY, among their own..I'm sure some of you remember exactly what I'm talking about. That's not 'helping the community from within the community' at all, that's straight up aiding and abetting and cleaning up after the criminals. Did they learn anything from their past, what's different?
@frlouis32666 жыл бұрын
That's another thing people don't consider, infiltration, which in a group like this should be quite easy. There's always two sides to each coin.
@PolyGang428 жыл бұрын
Can we get theses guys to go to Chicago & walk the streets.
@frlouis32666 жыл бұрын
In Chicago they don't slash, they shoot. To really be a match for the gangs they would have to be armed and the police would never allow that. A single thug with an extended clip handgun would take an entire patrol out in one go, and wouldn't think twice about it. Multiple individuals from a gang...it would be a night of target practice, they would be lambs to the slaughter. However you spin it, it's not doable. I used to live in Chicago btw.

i do not know what has been going on the last 30 years, but when i was a kid in the early/mid 80s i remember they started getting a lot of attention on the news and i was fascinated with them and wanted to be one of them. i worry that a long life of bad experiences and hard situations have made me not quite the person i had dreamed of growing up to be. i am not a criminal and i dont hurt anyone, but i am sort of a cold person. im rather anti social and just dont like or trust people and would rather not be around others. if i didnt have to work for a living i would never leave my house or interact at all. i am causing not harm in the world but i am creating no good either.
