This is an engine I'm desperate to see within the next 5 years. It'll be a slim chance but 1225 has been one of my top 5 favorite steam engines for many years now.

She’s a good one. If you can, head up there cause it’s worth the trip.

Better make it if you can before 2028. That’s when her boiler ticket is up

The History of the Polar Express: The Pere Marquette 1225 is a 250,000 (quarter million) pound 2-8-4 Berkshire Steam Locomotive built in October of 1941. On December 6th, 1941, she made her first run. So yesterday was eighty two years to the day since she made her first run. The 1225 ran for ten years until 1951 when the Diesel Locomotives took over and like the rest of the steam locomotives, the 1225 was sent to scrap. But, thankfully the owner of the scrapyard saw something special in this locomotive so he instead donated it to the Michigan State University and it sat on display. That’s where a young Chris Van Allsburg as a kid before every football game, would play and climb on the locomotive. In 1971, a bunch of railroading students got together and decided to get the locomotive running again. And in 1985, the 1225 was back in action. Also in 1985, Chris Van Allsburg wrote the classic Christmas Book, The Polar Express and he used 1225 as a model for the locomotive in the book. Then, in 2004, the train hit the big screen in Warner Brothers The Polar Express. She was used as the model for the train in the movie as well. And in 2005, The Polar Express formally known as the Pere Marquette has been doing train rides as The Polar Express during the week before thanksgiving to the week before Christmas. It’s a one hour train ride from Owasso, Michigan to Ashley, Michigan. There’s hot chocolate and even a merchandise car. When you get to Ashley, you get off the train for two hours and get to explore the village before getting back on the train and going back to Owasso. In 2022, The 1225 didn’t do any Polar Express runs because she got a lot of work done on her wheels but on November 18th, 2023, she returned and is back in action once again. The train is scheduled to get rebuilt in 2028. Love this train with all my heart and I’m a nerd when it comes to it 😂

That was fantastic, I enjoyed every moment of that! I love steam power, I have a S scale model of Pere Marquette #1225! (Dave).

Thanks, glad you enjoyed! I got an N scale model myself.

It was not the 1,472 day inspection. She doesn't go in for that until 2028? She had some serious wheel work done by FMW. Fantastic video, loved some of the angles you got of 1225. I look forward to seeing it soon.

Yeah she’s being rebuilt in 2028. At least that’s what I’ve heard. I hope they don’t ruin her.

@@EquineMetalhead I highly doubt that would be the case. The group that look after her definitely know what they are doing
