@@toziassmitt Even Ronnie will lose his game soon with age, sorry to break that to you, and if Ronnie retired and stopped playing for a decade, he'd also be struggling, because it's not magic, it's masses of hard work to stay that good. It's unavoidable in high precision and mental endurance skills like professional snooker. Cahill may not be a top professional (nor is he a "kid" either anyway...) but I don't see why you're deciding to use "kid" as a put down? Youth has never been an issue with being good at snooker. Hendry and Ronnie were both teenagers when they turned pro... Obviously Cahill is not as insanely talented as that but the point remains valid, and in any case he is not some new amateur, he's a top 100 in the world professional with years of experience. Considering Hendry has not really been playing or even practicing much at all for over a decade, the fact he's still clearing up difficult centuries of any kind at all is pretty good!

He can still play to a really high level, he just needs to focus and work harder than ever before to get his endurance and mental approach back to a level where he can at least cut his way into the big matches. This wasn't just a lucky break, this was a really tough break with a lot of brilliant shots and control. And what happened to not being good at doubles? Walloping in difficult doubles all over the table there! Maybe he's been practicing them more, especially after some of his Cue Tips videos.
@woudwilder8324
@woudwilder8324 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. If Stephen really wants to get back into the Crucible, he will have to start doing the hard work again and approach it like a job and practice at least 6 hours a day over an extensive period of time. Doing that, his level will improve again and his confidence will grow and he will go into matches with the knowledge that he prepared well. Basically, going back to basics, hard work is what made him the best in the 90's and as long as he is not willing to put in the effort, there is no way that 'comeback' is going anywhere... If however he would put in the work, I see no reason why he couldn't be very competitive again.
@ebojfmdboojoh4023
@ebojfmdboojoh4023 Жыл бұрын
I think it's concentration. Once he actually gets in the frame he can still score. He needs to concentrate and avoid basic errors. Losing 10-4 is no disgrace. Although Cahill did not play well in this game. Hendry in the 90's would have won this game 10-0 or 10-1

He's not committed enough anymore and never had enough natural aspects to his game other than pure grit, hard work and dedication to succeed. Mark Williams for example still practices but never to the level Stephen did, and he's still competing at the highest level due to his natural talent. Timing. When Stephen Hendry is focused, and he's timing is spot-on, he actually looks like a good player. All the good players know that it's all about timing, are you can see the influence of Steve Feeney, especially on some of those early starts where he stood to the middle of the stance, straight down the middle of the ball, and held is queue up to the middle of the ball before leaning down, which is completely different from his cue approach when he was playing regularly as a professional before retiring in 2012. I'm not saying that Steven was playing badly in every match in the final few years, but you could see that the focus has gone, and that he needed some help and coaching. The maximum in 2012 tells you that the ability was still there - and very much so - but with the extra focus and extra 'approach training' that he's doing with Steve Feeney at the SightRight system, especially if you consider the likes of Mark Williams, who became world champion again, top 16 player, and £2.1 million earnings since working at SightRight, and especially considering many of the seasoned players that he's brought back into the limelight using his system, you can't really argue with Steve Feeney's approach. Keep going Stephen, you just need to put a lot of focus in to it, and you'll get there.

I just hope, for his sake, he isn't taking this match too seriously. He's obviously losing pretty badly to the Giant Killer (apt nickname for this occasion) and he knows it's because he hasn't been seriously practicing for over 10 years. But so what? He is and will always be one of the all-time greats. I hope he knows he's just doing this for fun. I've seen him getting pretty frustrated with some of the shots he missed in the other frames, and obviously it's good he still cares. But as long as it doesn't make him frustrated to the point of never trying these forays into the professional game, it's all well and good. Just do you, everybody knows that playing and even winning against the great Stephen Hendry is a privilege for any player.
