To clarify on the weird visual bit at 9:55 with Ishigami, Maki and Tsubasa from Kashiwagi's point of view, Kashiwagi had previously heard of the rumours about Ishigami and mostly bought in to them, with the visual indicating Kashiwagi worrying Ishigami is corrupting or dangerous or some such for her boyfriend and BFF. But because the two vouched for Ishigami she decided to give him a chance, so props for that.

What the anime skipped over was chapter 112 where Kaguya tries to trap Miyuki into saying her cosplay costume was cute and saying does that you mean you like me. Instead Miyuki holds back as much as possible his pride and shame and makes Kaguya where a couple of different cosplays. A santa outfit, a high school girl with a blazer, and finally when he was at his limit a cat maid outfit. Miyuki faints from the utter cuteness and Ishigami comes in thinking it's Chika saying you have no shame and realizes when it's Kaguya she falls down in embarrassment. You see it in about two seconds of the opening of the movie episode.

For the Shinomiya family tree, Kaguya is the youngest daughter of the old Shinomiya father while Maki from the Shijo clan is the oldest of the young Shijo family (Shinomiya is mother side). Technically, they are distant aunt and niece by blood.

I think you exaggerate how bad Maki is a little lol. She doesn't have any real malice or make any serious attempts to brake Kashiwagi and her boyfriend up. The closest thing she did to that was suggesting a lame looking heart necklace as a gift. She's just understandably frustrated because her best friend and her crush are always acting so lovey dovey right infront of her, as we see this episode with them dragging her around the festival with them as an awkward third wheel. And a few episodes ago when Kashiwagi asked Maki to help her out by joining her club, just to then act like she's not there and completely ignore her for her boyfriend. Maki's just in an unfortunate and uncomfortable situation that she really can't do anything about.

There’s no comparison. Maki has shown up for like 1-2 episodes and is trying to steal her best friends boyfriend. There’s not an awful lot to like about her just yet. We’ve warmed up to her a little over the next few episodes tho 🙂

I honestly don't get the Maki dislike. I mean, in the begining I can understand. She wants to split them apart. A visceral reaction is understandable. But then she does nothing, and her ultimate plan is to just wait it out. Wait for them to naturally break up. I find that quite noble. If not kinda sad. Also, I love how people think Miyuki would have rescued the drowning student, forgetting the crucial fact that he can't swim either. 😂

For Miyuki it really was love at first sight for him. In the manga, Kaguya (Ice version) the one you see in the beginning brushed off and ignored him. So he realized if he wanted to get her attention, he had to do it from a position of strength like being Student Council president and improving his grades. Most of what I will say will be in the movie.
