When you are on mtgo… can you draft this vintage cube without paying currency? Sorry, I’ve never played mtgo. Do they own the cube virtually? I don’t understand. How do they all 6 queue up together for it?

The way it works: 1) they're all in a discord server together to organise drafts. There's an invite to LSV's server in the vid description if you want to join. 2) they draft using an online program called Draftmancer. 3) they are signed up to MTGO card-rental services such as Cardhoarder. These charge ~$5 a week to loan you out the cards you need. Like a library, once you're done with them you send them back and take out new ones next time.

@LSV i have a question about your/my cubelist. Why do you not include time vault? I heard you say before that cutting cards because of powerlevel is weird? in vintage cube, but it seems that a lot of people agree that time vault combo is too powerfull. I dont understand that statement when P9 is in the list. (Or do you just dont like the playpattern?)

So with Time Vault, you just get infinite turns and that's just really powerful. Sure Kinnan/Basalt gives you infinite mana, but you can't just win with infinite mana, same goes for infinite draw, infinite life, etc., you always need something else to enable the utility of that infinite. It is impossible to lose when you have infinite turns, and it doesn't really promote a fun playstyle of back and forth or fun games, it's just "oh I have this combo, I win, but it might take me 5 turns of you just sitting there" and that's strong, but also really boring

@@LizEllwood i mean sure, but its possible to loose against good enough bordstates and exiled threats. Also there is breach combo, twin combo, heliod balista (only in my cube not modo or lsv afaik) they win on the spot🤷‍♂️

Most of the other deterministic combos require you to have colored mana, or more mana, or more cards. The closest thing I think to a 2 card combo that wins the game that early is Channel Emrakul, and it requires double green and exactly those two cards.

@@lurro9963 Breach Combo: Requires Breach, LED, Brain Freeze and a decent amount of knowledge/coordination to pull off (Least mana intensive) Twin Combo: Requires a card that cost double red or triple red plus a blue pip Heliod Balista: Requires two white pips, earliest you can turbo it out is turn 3 usually, and that's with a perfect draw and your opponent doing nothing (highly unlikely) I don't know what artifact untapper would get put in the cube, but that would be (likely) be pure colorless mana that any deck could use and turbo out by turn 2 (with a perfect draw). Wayyyyyy too powerful for the cost you have to put it in the deck

Strongly disagree. Boros is a great addition to the legacy ecosystem and the format would be much less interesting without it, and it’s incredibly fun in commander too. White plume is busted, yes, but this is a cube with not just literal power, but cards like Minsc and Boo which are almost there. My only complaint is that mono white doesn’t need the help, but guess what: you’re more than welcome to build a cube without white plume if you so desire

​@@DiscardatRandom yeah, its power - I was wrecking my brain yesterday in the MtGO cube, if I want to pick it in a timewalk deck, thinking of any cards I would want to put in my deck that would buff its power. The only cases that came to my mind where in a jeskai deck with eagles of the north or the white 2 drop that gives out +1/+1 counters or maybe showdown of the scalds. In this cube the initiative actually adds a lot of great cards that would buff the arcanists power. I do think it is a neat addition :)

Comment before watching so it's not 20/20 hindsight logic: I think white plume is going to turn out to be not quite as busted as LSV expects it will be without a critical mass of 1's and 2's (which is why I would have taken novice inspector). If you get initiative and you don't have another creature in play, it's very easy to lose it, and if your creature dies, you don't get to go down the left side without wasting the counters which is the more busted half of the chain. This deck just looks clunkier than a 2024 cube deck should be with not enough 1 and 2 mana plays that play to the board. He does have some pitch spells and a chrome mox which is nice, but he's going to be leaning pretty heavily on those and it's not clear he has the card advantage to make up for it. I hope I'm proven wrong though!

Well the deck and white plume did alright here, although it did really seem like mana vault, chrome mox, and esper sentinel were a huge part of the games that white plume was effective in. LSV really didn't have much in the way of other relevant permanents before turn 3 (I guess jace and skydiver sort of count) so I think he drew the few early plays he did have a bit more than expected. The games where he didn't, it was definitely clear that white plume just wasn't what he needed because he couldn't keep the initiative. I don't think I called it but I'm not sure I was proven wrong either because the early plays were so crucial to most of his wins.
