For added context on Melty Molten Galaxy. It’s a small collection of planetoids covered in lava orbiting a larger planet also covered in lava minus a single island with a large volcano and a some sparse ruins. On top of that, the Galaxy is nestled in between two massive supernovas so close to each other their gravity’s cause then to exchange lava. Despite the environment being 95% lava, it is some of the best environmental storytelling in the game imo and the music sells it all the better.

Good Egg Galaxy is such a fantastic introductory piece It’s the very first real level you play after going through like 10 minutes of a tutorial, and it has you fly down for a few seconds with nothing but the sound of Mario whooshing through the stars, and the moment he lands with a bang and a triumphant “WA HA!”, the incredible orchestra comes in with a triumphant melody, as if to say “Oh yeah, you’re in for an ADVENTURE”

Something I really want to mention during the Purple Coins theme is that at 8:50, the piece reuses the exact same motif that is used in Gusty Garden Galaxy after the Trumpet and Harp solos! It’s almost like the composer knew that this motif has so much power and feeling to it and wanted to utilize it! Just another point to add to the long list of reasons why Mario Galaxy’s soundtrack is a masterpiece to listen to!

Fun fact! I usually point this out to people who react to Galaxy's OST so I figure I should let you know as well. Koji Kondo, who is fairly well known for composing tracks of the entire Mario series, decided to step back and work as the sound director for this game. So this game was actually composed by someone completely different! Their name is Mahito Yokota, and it was the first time they were composing for a Nintendo game, much less anything Mario related. Yokota did end up asking Kondo to compose two of the themes of the game for variety's sake, and the first one would be essentially one of the first that you hear - Good Egg Galaxy. It's not the first level in the game but it is the first world you reach after the tutorial ends. As for the second, it's a theme that's played probably the most throughout the game and wasn't covered in this video. You have heard it before! On a video I did not comment on at the time. It's Rosalina's Observatory.
@Luis_Luy Жыл бұрын
She has already react to the rosalina's observatory, but only the 1 theme
@legoboy7107 Жыл бұрын
It wasn't Yokota's first time composing for Nintendo, as he had composed for Donkey Kong Jungle Beat previously (the Galaxy team's previous and first game, has a lot of influence on the Galaxy games), but it was his first time composing for Mario (though Donkey Kong Jungle Beat's soundtrack does include an unused unique arrangement of the Mario 1 theme for...some reason). This also wasn't the only game where Kondo, while he stepped back and left most of the soundtrack to other composers, did still compose the "first world" theme. The other game is New Super Mario Bros., where, like Galaxy, he was just the sound director or something instead of the composer, but he did compose the NSMB overworld theme (that would proceed to be reused for Wii and 2), just like he composed Good Egg Galaxy.
@jclkaytwo Жыл бұрын
mahito yokota actually composed the soundtrack of DK jungle beat before he composed for galaxy. jungle beat's soundtrack is actually quite reminiscent of galaxy's non-orchestral themes, so I'd recommend seeking a listen!
@Riverbui Жыл бұрын
@@jclkaytwo I tried replying to legoboy before but my comment kept getting deleted. I had no idea that he composed for Jungle Beat because it didn't show up on the wiki I was looking up, and I didn't consider how NSMB would have had a different composer, but it makes sense in hindsight.

My concept of each piece you listened to: Luma Theme: You are brand spanking new to playing, so you hear this and you know you're in for fun! Good Egg Galaxy: A welcoming first galaxy to get you started and to play around with the controls! Very open and easy! Dusty Dune Galaxy: You're out in the middle of nowhere, and in the desert to be exact! Quicksand is EVERYWHERE, and of course it's very mysterious and Arabian like! Mecha Bowser: You're on a mission to infiltrate and take down a MASSIVE robot mid - late game! Purple Coins: Timed challenge! There's no time to lose, and is very memorization heavy later on! Melty Molten Galaxy: Whew, is it me, or is it hot here? With lava covering maybe 80% of the stage, it's going to be a harder time going forward! Credits: You've got to 100%ing the game and see who worked really hard on this game!

I am once again here to provide some context and/or thoughts because this is one of my favourite games ever. Good Egg Galaxy is the first regular level after the tutorial and introduction to the game so of course the music has to be captivating and get you excited to explore the little planets and fly through space! Dusty Dune Galaxy is -as you probably guessed- a desert level. And like many Nintendo Desert Levels is follows the pattern of cool design + awesome music + annoying gameplay (because quick sand is infuriating) All I have to say about Mecha Bowser is that it's not intimidating because it's a Toy Robot in the shape of Bowser (just very big) that you take apart by removing all the screws. The Purple Coin Comet music is IMO perfect for the type of level it is, because you're not there to explore you're breezing through the worlds you've already seen and testing your skill on how fast you are and how well you know your way around. You are correct, there's lava im Melty Molten Galaxy, in fact that's what most of that world is comprised of. It feels heroic because you're traversing over rocks and mountains between the lava and other fiery perils (dare I say Indiana Jones Style). And of course the Credits Theme providing a satisfying conclusion to your adventure, making you look back on all the challenges you overcame and feel happy about the experience and proud of your accomplishments. I don't know if you will do yet another part to this (I would certainly welcome it) but if not I still recommend the song "Family" from this ost. It is the very last song in the game, by which I mean you have to 100% beat the game TWICE to hear it in-game as it plays during a secret cutscene that is kinda relevant to the story but hard to explain to someone who doesn't know said story. Regardless it is a short, beautiful Piano tune and absolutely worth hearing. Alright now, smartass-ing over ✌💜

Here’s the visuals in each song: Luma’s theme: the prologue of the game shown in hand drawn pictures, it’s used when Rosalina tells Mario her story as well. A different version plays when the lumas sacrifice themselves to save the universe, it’s so sad. Good egg: the first level in the game with grassy planets and linear levels Dusty dune: obviously a desert, with big sandy planets and quick sand along with ruins. Mechs bowser: in toy time galaxy when Mario is climbing the robot to save the machines, it’s located in a giant kids room. Purple coins: collect 100 in certain amount of time, it plays just about anywhere in post-game Melty molten: last major galaxy. It’s a fire galaxy with lava, volcanoes, fire planets, fire enemies. Just loads of fire and that god damn star ball, I can’t stand that star ball level. There’s also a level here where you can get hit, it’s really hard. Brillant video.

Not every Purple Coin mission has the Purple Coin theme. Each level has a Purple Coin mission, the ones where the Purple Coin theme plays are timed in one way or another. Usually it's a literal time limit you can constantly see at the top of the screen and that beeps at you at every minute mark, but there are two that play out on moving platforms, where you have to grab the coins as the platform passes them by. It's not a literal time limit, but the platform only makes the one pass, and if you don't have 100 Purple Coins at the end of the track, you fail.

good egg galaxy has a a section from wii rainbow road theme perhaps thats why it sounded familiar to you though it sounds kinda really similar to gusty garden too the buildup is very reminiscent

I wish you would have reacted to Rosalina’s comet observatory part 3 and the gateway. Those two songs used to make me cry all the time.
